There are a lot of happy owners of those boats, they seem to run "well" and they have enough room to make the women happy too.
Rik Hi Fred wanted something old and decent that seemed to fit the criteria.

Take care and Best Regards

Steve1- I don't know who you are but..... wow... it seems like every thread you show up on turns into a grammer school playground (I know you are but what am I?) type stuff. This thread started out with a question and an answer from some one who knows this boat well, and gave some pretty good info.........now it's just crap.

Hey Sonic,

Your friend Steve1 might be Steve Koss.
(But one would expect better behavior if it is, and you would think he would buy a membership.)

If so, he is very involved with Apache and Cheetah, and would have something to add to the discussion.

I can see why he would have strong opinions about Don's (20 year old) product.

I can't see why he wouldn't take the high road, being an actual participant in design and builds. Wouldn't think he would need to come on OSO and call people names.

I know that a lot of people are jealous that they didn't think of all this in the sixties, like Don did.

Why else be threatened by 20 year old technology?

If I designed a Cat, I would make it exactly like an Ocean Express 39.

For the record...I have/had nothing against Aronow...... But I didn't, and don't, worship at his altar either. His vees from the original Formula through the final Aronow's were quite stout and well built..and worthy of respect. However, these boats were designed by others and intended as monohulls not cat platforms.

The fact is he set out to make a cat at a time when Cougar (and Shadow) were at the head of the class in performance....and Australian Cats were state of the art for pure rough water running. Don's cats had poor performance (yet were billed as a Drug Interdiction boat because of their "speed") but, in spite of their size, were not as seaworthy as the Aussie inspired World Cats.

Face it guys...... he sawed two vee bottoms in half to make a quick buck out of the fledgling cat market. There was no "design"....no "plan"... no "philosophy"....displayed here. It was simply "gimme the skilsaw" and to try and rewrite history and paint it as anything else is a testament to just how blinded we have become to marketing manipulation. Aronow did have a genius....for self promotion and arrogance (I share the latter), but his "contribution" to the development of catamarans was as I stated previously....nada. The fact that Andrew had good experience with the hull parallels my experiences with deck boats...adequate when used in conservative circumstances. However, the party barge should not be used to herald the "design prowess" of the guy who made the first aluminum tank trailer.

Had he lived, based on his (later) disinterest in performance boats and his penchant for repackaging the same hulls again and again..... Don would probably be cutting a Dragon in half as we speak, while chatting on the phone with his bookie.

T2x....... Yeah, yeah...I know "One man's opinion"...yawn.
