this just shows you that nothing is unbreakable..i was working the race as a med boat and had 3 medics onboard my 29 scarab. the only 1-3's out there were the wakes from the race boats.. water conditions were every bit of 4-6 and not spaced the way we like them. bottom line is thank god there ok, yes the boat broke, but only one person mentioned the important part. it floated and kept the crew as safe as possible and remained floating while it was towed back in. Two thumbs up to Sutphen. I wish my bones could take that kinda beatin for that amount of time !

I just went outside and hit a big tree with a bat, no problem. I continued to hit it with the same power and after the 8th swing, it shattered. Can we assume the same would happen to a boat with years of race abuse?

The sides of the boat are foam cored the bottoms are 1/2 plywood sandwithched construction,I've seen all the picies of the boat whats left of the main structure and the pices that washed up,there are no signs of delamitation or fatige, all coring is in mint condition! It was a combination of circumstance's that ended the era.........end of story. The Buckshot crew is looking for a new hull already......stay tuned!

Sounds about right on the construction...I fished quite a few of those pieces out of the water on Friday from one of the sweep boats.
(Thanks again Ron P for hooking me up with the ride.)

This boat appears to only have two stringers and a number of less than half-high bulkheads. Is this a special race configuration or are all Stuphens built this way? I don't know enough about boat building to critique, but to me , it looks like a compromising weight saving technique.
