A good friend told me the only way to keep your boat around in these, is to trailer sink them. Is anyone doing that?

You would be surprised at how much water weighs, it can really help. Eighteen boats on trailers and none lost yet, fyi. lol

Speed Girl-have them place him in a water tight container and then they can put that in the dishwasher. Otherwise have them store stuff in in interior room (bathroom, closet) that doesn't have any windows and preferably not on an exposed outside wall). I live in Port St. Lucie and work in Jensen Beach. Alot of people are still out looking for essential supplies.

According to the latest NOAA data and computer models, Ft. Myers will be okay this time. However, we all know that these storms can take some wild turns at the last minute, so the predictions are only a rough guide.

The latest storm track is showing landfall to be somewhere between West Palm and Fort Pierce.
Here are a couple of "before" shots of the ocean/inlet from the rear terrace of our place in Stuart, smack inbetween West Palm & Ft. Pierce

To all my friends in Florida,
GET OUT OF TOWN! This SOB is BIG! I've watching this thing all day. At 2pm it was moving 13mph WNW and was 395 miles from Miami, that means it will be knocking on your door tomorrow evening at 8pm.

To my friends here in Georgia,
I don't know if ya'll remember OPAL that came through here back in '95, but it did significant damage. If you have a boat floating at a marina, you might want to think about doubling all the docklines on your boat.

Look at the picture at the top of this page. This is the view if you were to walk 40 or so yards to the far Palm Trees.
I bet the beach will change quite a bit!

That thing looks like a bowling ball heading for the 5 pin.

Yup, if I were in South Florida, I think it would time to go. Maybe to Key West rather than going north.

Good luck folks. DJD, don't ya think you should get rid of some of the coconut so they don't turn into bullets?

there is a website http://www.hurricanecity.com that has info and a stream feed of news and press conferences if anyone is interested. I know in Martin Co they are instituting a mandatory curfew tomorrow at 8pm and also suspending the sale of alcohol there at that time too. They are also doing a partial evac of Martin Memorial Hospital North which is over by the river.

Re: Latest Hurricane?

Greetings from Ft. Lauderdale....
the wind is satrting to blow a bit... Ocean swells near the shore are at about 6'-8' with the wind knocking the tops off.

Idiots are in hysterics everywhere.. I saw a guy flip out at Arby's!
Gas statios have no gas left.
(Yes, I filled the Duramax up)

I pulled a customer's 38 Fountain Express Cruiser out at the public ramp in Pompano this moring. You should have seen all the circus acts going on there. Every guy had his 1/2 ton Chevy 2WD trying to pull their buddies 38 center console boat out of the water....

We had no trouble getting the 15,000lb boat on the trailer and back inside the fence here... He is one happy customer... His dock/slip is about 1/2 mile from the Hillsboro inlet...
The tide here is already about 1' over normal high tide.

Then we went over to Schubles house to help tie his two float lift in the middle of his canal... The tide was touching the bottom of his dock... About two more ft and the dock will be under water. I'd say the house and nice new swimming pool are about another 5' over that...

All the OSO computers were humming away- for now.... :drink: Get it while you can...

I'm getting on a plane back to PA to go hang with the folks while this blows through.

I'll be back in town Tuesday.
Give me a call if any of you need help..
My cell is 954-551-1051

Hang in there guys.

TIM.

I had agreat addition to this thread, and the only thing I can add is HURRICAINES SUCK. We had Fabian last year, he blew off the radio mast at 177mph on Harbour Radio. Please heed all the warnings and good luck from Bermuda. Please do not think that you are stronger than this thing because it will let you know that you are not. BE CAREFUL and take care.

Fever Mike,
I would be more inclined to leave the boat on a wash rack and fill it with water and lash it down to keep it from blowing over, than to put it in a rack that might fall over.

I sure am glad we're back here in Ga. at a time like this.

Take care kids.

Re: Latest Hurricane?

My father and borther are getting ready to hunker down in the garage at my father's place. The house is in Boca Raton east of I-95 (no windows and doors braced). Hopefully they will be okay - decided the traffic was too much to deal with.

When my father bought the house 2 years ago I got him a heavy duty commercial generator - he told me I was wasting my money. The garage is a 3 car and has A/C. They have a lot of food, lounge chairs, a portable TV and radio. They keep telling me "don't worry about it".

I worry about them, and I'm booked on a flight down on Sunday morning - fat chance of that flight leaving on time.

Hopefully this storm will move north and "land" in an area that is not too populated so the danger to people is lessened. My best wishes and thoughts go out to everyone who has family/friends and property in the path of this monster.

House is boarded up, all loose items secured in garage, Got a fridge full of beer, and a freezer full of beef(set on coldest settings), and a full propane tank. I have been filling bags with ice for 2 days, and have 5 coolers lined up in the garage to keep it all for a few days once the power goes out. JayL13 got evacuated from his apartment at Boynton Inlet, so he is here(napping, I musta worked him too hard putting up the shutters today), along with his dog and cat(wife is in PA). Boat is along side the house, I have the trailer secured with cinder blocks under the tongue, and infront, and behind each wheel, it will get tarped, and roped tomorrow. Moved jays Baja indoors at the old Sonic Factory(Doller Marine, thanks Art, and Mindi). We are going to try to rough it out here, hopefully this matchbox stays together!!

Good Luck to Everyone!!! and if anyone needs to go West, call me, we'll make room 954-254-0414
