Brownie
This is Charlie Sr.....wasn't the name of the MSV La Tortuga? and also wasn't the deck that JC Simon used on the hulls for Joel and the Coyote boats just a redo of the Paolo Calairi decks from Italy.
In addition to the narrow foot of the bow area making those boats very good in rough water, the strakes on my boat went down from 5 inch at the chines to 4 inch to 3 inch on the lowest strake. The chine strake gave a lot of lift and top speed for flat water too.
I remember the duel Jerry Jacoby with Ajac Hawk and I had in 1980 in the Bahamas over the last 25 miles of the race. Flat out with the throttles pinned, and Willy Myers on my boat trying to get as much lift as possible out of the boat with the drives .....we led until the port engine blew a rod about three miles out, but still had enough lead over the rest of the fleet to come in second.
Hey, the older I get the faster I was.
My best to you and any other guys from that era.

Coyote 34R Raced from 1982-1985 Best Rough water boat ever, slow, heavey, but handles Lake Erie like cake, any seas bring them on.
A few old Putt Putt shots.

I bought the putt putt boat, from a guy who bought it from a drug auction in 1990. he raced one race in va. beach in 90 that was huge seas in c class against cats and lapped the feild on a 8 mile course in two laps. it was parked for 7 years after that race until i bought it. boat was a wave killer, hate to say it but my cig. dont compare. Alcore i was told when i bought my coyote that they only made a 34 and a 38 and they were all race boats with staggered set up or outboards. i would think that yours is most likley a sonic. coyotes hull number started with HCN. that should be a dead give away if its still on the boat.

A Smith, the hull number stamped on the transom (starboard side) is CDB36015M84C. According to Chatim Racing (Charlie McCarthy), Jean Claude eventully sold the Coyote molds to Sonic so I guess it could come down to "when" did Simon sell the mold to Sonic. I had asked Sonic (via e-mail with photo of the boat) months ago and their only reply was the "Your boat was build by Jean Claude Simon". Looking at the first photo of Top Banana in post #15, the deck, black windshield and vents on the side look identical to my boat. Either way, it's a great rough water ride!
