They are not phantom powerboats.
They are an unlicensed/illegal splash of the Phantoms designed by Steve Baker in the UK.

Re: PHANTOM POWERBOATS made in Malta??

Going back to the boating thing, is the story of the Phantom moulds like this?

The factory in the UK closed down - correct or not?
Hulls up to 23 ft were sold to people in the UK - correct or not?
Hulls over 23ft were sold to an outfit in Spain (or somewhere South) - correct or not?

Whatever the answer to the above may be, the fact is that these boats was confirmed to me by the 'producers' do not have a CE certificate, hence they cannot be sold to Europe.

Re: PHANTOM POWERBOATS made in Malta??

I communicated with Mr Ciantar the owner of Chaudron and he advised me that they will have the CE certification of the boats for inboard/outboard configuration as well as inflatable (RIB) configuration if a months time.

This is a new company. And I think the story of the moulds of the British factory been sold to someone in the South of Euope fits.

Any way, a member of PARTYBOATING.COM has given me this link. Apparently the 33 made by Chaudron came 3rd in Powerboat P1 World Championship races.

Have a look at it

Re: PHANTOM POWERBOATS made in Malta??

I may be biased as i own a Chaudron 33 with twin Merc 300x, but it is one hell of a boat, eats up the rough water. The 300x are beasts.

Re: PHANTOM POWERBOATS made in Malta??

I own a Chaudron 25. I always loved the look of Phantoms when I was a kid, and my boat looks very similar on the outside, but much more modern on the inside. It even has a small cabin up front. I am overjoyed with it. It is one of the fastest and best looking boats in the bay where I live. I cannot recommend this manufacturer highly enough.

Re: PHANTOM POWERBOATS made in Malta??

Owned 2 Chaudrons from new...

25 with merc 225 optimax
currently have...
33 with twin merc 225 optimax

Based near Brighton.

Both boats fantastic, real fast, excellent in rough.

33 is definitely not a splashed phantom, seen plug + have compared phantom 28 hull & deck in detail...totally different

Want a ride? email me.

Second-off - the Chaudron site aint worth sh*t anyway. . . .
The Chaudron boats are ugly as a mud fence. If they ARE in fact, a pop, they did Phantom ( USA ) no favors. . . if they ARE a pop, AND are true to the lay-up, then you can rest assured that they run in the rough. . . .

Re: PHANTOM POWERBOATS made in Malta??

Phantom (in this context) was a UK company owned by Steve Baker, who designed and built boats in the UK from sometime in the 70's, until I think about 2000. They are completely unrelated Phantom in the US.
Chaudron, Raffshore and a number of other european laminators splashed various Phantom designs, and in some instances made minor cosmetic changes in order to pass off the designs as their own. In every instance, design details from the original phantom molds have been reproduced allowing the history of the designs to be reliably traced.
Sadly, Chaudron, Raffshore and various other splashers were contributors to Mr Baker hanging up his boots and retiring - with the splashers knocking out cheap substandard copies, and having none of the upfront design, development & tooling costs, the writing was always on the wall.

Having taken some time to compare Chaudron's 33 "flagship", this is clearly a splash of the Phantom 28 hull which they have stretched, and done a cut and shut job on the deck including a modification of the wind deflector. In fact, the only bit of the boat that is their own design is the windshield, but I guess that might have been splashed from something else too!

Let's ask T2X his opinion of splashing - the cobra 36 being a case in point.

Re: PHANTOM POWERBOATS made in Malta??

madmat you know nothing i hade a chaudron 25 with a 225 merc on the back it flew in rough water a very stable and forgiving boat.
I also had three phantoms 19,21x2 all designed and built by the legend Steve Baker the chaudron outperfomed all and was of much better build quality and i mean MUCH BETTER the boats are hand laid and the lines are all hand finished great boat and i have been racing boat for 20 years
get a grip man steve baker is history move over make way for CHAUDRON

leviathan 01-10-2006 02:47 PM

Re: PHANTOM POWERBOATS made in Malta??

Yeah, I've got photos of their 'hand finished lines'! look like the Rockies! The only staight bits are thosethat haven't been 'Chaudroned'.

Nice rigging on their race boats too, would you like me to post some pics of their rusty bolted old dog of a boat they turned up at Cowes with this year?..you'd be proud.

Splashers and their customers always have the same tale to tell! And it's very sad.

When Chaudron build something thats completely their own, properly finished, straight moulded, light enough to perform, whilst strong enough to last (and visa versa) and nicely rigged, i'll applaud them, untill then, they're just a bunch of theiving 'Laminators' who wanna make money from someone elses skill & knowledge, no more.

PS. I'd lay 20 bucks that offshoracer' is 'r-don' who incidentally doesn't/hasn't ever raced, and doesn't know if he's having a sh*t or a haircut when it comes to boats.

This is a classic R-Don trick.

Re: PHANTOM POWERBOATS made in Malta??

i dont race boats any more and i dont have to tell any lies either the boat i had was very well finished it handled well and i had a great time with it however to insult my knowledge of good and bad boats is a bit sad
i have had various mono race boats in my day as well as ski boats and runabouts the boat i have at the moment is an ebbtide extreme and im sure the guys at the other side of the pond will know their build quality so all im saying is that chaudron is a good offshore hull i have no connection with them whatsoever i have no reason to back their hull and have nothing to gain i have given my veiw and leviathan has slagged me off for it have you owned or driven a chaudron and yes send me or post the photos and i can send and post photos of a well presented chaudron which i was proud to own and drive i dont know who you are but i have done you no wrong

offshoreracer 01-15-2006 09:34 AM

Re: PHANTOM POWERBOATS made in Malta??

by the way just read the article on cowes the rusty old dog of a chaudron managed to hold itself together long enough to get second place and if i read it right the brit boat had to retire so the boat must drive straight to sorry but ther boat seems to be doing ok being scottish i support my country any way possible i am also one of the few who would support england if i had to but you must admit you got to back a winner eh !!
i reckon there is a prize for second place after all

How eloquent... makes you proud to be British, don't you know? I see our old friend the lying Greek is still about too. How's the race team doing? You spend so long in your fantasy world, it amazes me that you have time to hand prepare your fine craft using your obvious wealth of knowledge and vast breadth of experience.

And clearly a very brave 'offshoreracer' too! so brave in fact, that you wont put your name on here! woo hoo, what a hero.

So come on, post your name Rambo!

And maybe a little about your 19, and two 21's, and a lot about your racing history, this I want to hear.
I mean, why on earth would you want to be anonymous?

Chaudron, I don't have an issue with you personally, you know that.
There's certainly a lot of paint on those boats, but to be honest, the upholstery looks a little under parr to me.
