Default Turbine "Fire Ball"

Hi all,

I was reading the Key West thread about the turbine fireball and I imediately recalled the fireball I witnessed a few years ago....when I got to see Ken Warby fire up (literally) his newest weapon for the World Water Speed record.

I was standing right next to the boat when it lit off. I never expected the fire would shoot that far and melt his garage. It was AMAZING.

Here is the video taken by Mike Balz. Those kids you see in the video are my boys. I'm bringing them up right. Sadly, they were too young to understand the signifigance of all of this. Someday they will....I hope.

Check this out:

PS this takes a long time to load even with a high speed connection. Be patient - it's cool!

The whole time I could help but ponder, "I wonder what his neighbors think?"

LOL!

That dude could have reached over and put out the fire on the boat.

That turbine was not going to bite him. LOL

Here is a little more information about the boat:

http://www.enquirer.com/editions/200...es_to_top.html

Last I heard, the Austr. Powerboat Assoc was giving him a hard time that his boat didn't have a capsule.

At 400mph, just what kind of capsule do they think will save anybody ???

The boat got "wet" for the first time this past spring in Australia. But it wasn't a full pass - just a test run. They did manage to secure a sponsor too.

I found this forum about some people who were present when Ken got the boat wet for the first time in Australia. They give some details about that event, which was actually for a press conference; no intention to run any speed passes - they are still tweaking. I suppose they want to stay mum about the testing until they are ready for a go at the record. Warby's got some compeitition --- There are two other teams trying for the record at this time too!
