Here was a photo from one of the newspapers covering the Point Pleasant Beach race.

We started from dead last postion. The offshore waters were big, so I decided to keep us in along the beach. As everyone outside of us were launching to the sky from deep ground swells, we seemed to have a calmer area along the beach. I told our driver Rich to watch out for the surfers....He said "What surfers?" I showed him this pic the next day. ;)

This is what SHOCKWAVE looked like when Joe Calabro owned it. The boat ran great and was well dialed in as far as I know. Then the engine builder convinced Rich to change the entire setup after he himself set the boat up with Finish Line. If you notice in the photos, Shock Wave had speedmasters put on it and went from small bocks to big blocks...
I don't know why the sudden change once it switched owners?

So who says TRS drives are NO GOOD ? 730 HP @ 7400 an they raced more than

just 40 miles back then. More like 140 miles in the production class, imagine that !

We almost got to race against Fever in the 1996 race at Lake Winni but someone forgot the prop nuts. Fever made it to the milling area and had nothing when the green flew.

No doubt, Fever was the greatest B boat of it's time.

That Fever boat was one running son of a gun I loved to watch that boat run

Actually that same day after the race I was asked to join the team. I figured what was the chances of that ever happening again...So I said yes..... :D
Besides they needed a fiberglass guy on the team after that anyway...

JC,

Good stuff, it brings back good memories of the Point Pleasant races. Back then, the early 90's, I thought B class was the best for the race fan, with Fever, and Art Lilly's Fountain. You guys were definitely a little nuts from what I remember, fearless that is. I thought Armed and dangerous was a great set-up, it seemed to run good. Keep it coming with the old school memories.

That's too recent. Muscle started racing in B class in 1996. Fever started probably 10 years before then.

Another great B boat was Dragon Lady. And of course, my favorite, Mr. Technology.

Or in simplier times, the classes were very straightforward, Production with the 280hp/350 cu.in MerCruiser(s) and TRS Drives, or earlier Volvo 270/280's, then Modified, like the 27' Magnum Sport's with small block tunnel rams, and #2 Speedmasters, and Finally Open Class. Your point on canopies was good, tehnology certainly went crazy in the past 10 years with performance. I do like F-1, an F-2 classes,

JC, what class, will you race in next?
