Logically one would take the used chopper to the Robinson factory and have them go over it with a fine toothed comb before strapping yourself in. Any thoughts on that?

I don't know about the R162, but with the R22 and R44, you ship it back to the factory for a major overhaul at the 2000 hour mark. The engine and all the mechanicals are rebuilt. Prior to 2000 hours, you would have an A&P mechanic do an inspection before purchase.

Hello all. My name is Tony and I'm from the Cleveland, Ohio area. Been boating on Lake Erie for around 18 years. Currently have a 2001 Baja 342 with the 502 mag MPI’s. Bought it from NM, but we won’t go there  . We keep the boat in Marblehead and spend a lot of time at the Islands. We are members of the Put-in-Bay Yacht Club and The Boardwalk. I’m married with two girls, 7 & 11. Also collect cars. Currently have a Ferrari and few others, and the daily driver is an H2 Hummer. Look forward to seeing some of you guy’s at the Casino or the Roundhouse. TEAMBAJA, I see you are from the Cleveland area too. I usually just like to lurk and read the posts to keep up on things. I guess I'm a Lurker too.....OK I said it. I like the Poker Runs and events and we'll run in them...but my stinky outboard scares people away...and I'm only 21 feet long, so I look like a Jon boat next to most of you. I feel like the red headed step child on OSO but I keep coming back. I've met some great people on this board. They might even let me tie up to them sometime...in the future....if no one else is around...and it's dark...lol....lol...some of you have even waved at us...when others aren't looking.

Hi, my name is Bryan. I am also a lurker. I have an '05 Baja 23 Outlaw w/ 496 Mag. I'm also new to the go-fast boating scene. Funny thing the boat is only 3 months old (30 hrs) and I am already itching to go up to 30ft. But I have to saw, so far, this boat is awesome. A great intro into the go-fast lifestyle. I live a couple of minutes from the Intra-Coastal in Jacksonville FL. so I take her out every chance I get.

Yep. It's gotta go back down the assembly line. We've got an R44 downstairs. The police and fire use it, but they use our hangar. It can fit in the back of my pickup. They look big in the air, but in the hangar downstairs sitting in between a Dauphin (attack helicopter conversion) and an Agusta (medi-vac) , it looks like a toy. Where do you put your legs? It's like 3 feet wide and 5 feet tall. The seats look like lawn chair tops with no legs. They have to hire midgets to fly the thing. They paid $500,000 for the R44.

I can't imagine how small the R22 is. I thought the R44 was an R22.

You can get lessons in Chandler AZ from an authorized Robinson dealer.

Re: This thread is for all the NON POSTING LURKERS!!!

My name is Kevin and I have been a lurker for quite a while. I guess I was just reading posts trying to learn something. "It" all started one day when I was on my way to look at a Mastercraft to ski behind. I just happened to drive by the Baja dealership and saw a sharp looking 20 Outlaw sitting on the lot. I looked at it and thought that since I am not a competetive skiier I could change props and have a skiable boat and have a 60mph toy the rest of the time. I could also save a bunch of money at the same time. That did not work out as planned.

I was hanging out at the lake when a couple of other Baja's pulled up. They introduced themselves and we started talking boats. They mentioned the Carolina Power Boat Association and I expressed an interest so my wife and I were invited to a meeting. We met, joined, and started friendships with a great group of people. We did a bunch of club outings and always had a great time in spite of being the smallest boat in attendance. You can denigrate Baja's if you want to but that 20 Outlaw saw 230 hrs(in 2 summers) of pretty tough action, including the Jax poker run that I ran on the wood the entire time.

That being said I still was looking to move up and the Velocity 290 SC had the combination of features we were looking for. We made the deal and took delivery in Oct. We have had limited time on the boat doing a couple of trips on the ICW leaving out of Daytona(we live in NC). So ask me how the money saving idea went.

My name is Bill, I'm 48 old and have been boating all my life. I live and boat in the Northeast and spend time in So. Florida, where I would like to move full time in the near future. Not to be mistaken for the master of ceremonies Billy Frenz.

Just last month I finely got around to getting my Captain's License, something I wanted to do for a long time.

I will be in Miami for the show and hope to get together with some of you!

Have a great new years!

Re: This thread is for all the NON POSTING LURKERS!!!

I read way more than I post, so I guess I fit the profile.

I've been into boats all my life (49 yrs young), starting when my Dad brought home an old wooden Chris Craft that had been in a small fire. I willingly spent hours and hours (I was probably 6 or 7 at the time) removing plugs, screws, and planks, and helped make it look new again. We lived mostly in the midwest as I was growing up and spent summers on Lake of the Ozarks. Back then you could be somewhat comfortable in an 18' runabout.

While still in college and living at home, I partnered with my sister and her husband to buy a 17' runabout, which I ended up buying solely and it then became community property when I married my wife (25 years ago tomorrow!!!!!!!!). We lived in an apartment at the time, and used our single parking spot in the underground parking garage to store the boat. We had great times with that boat, playing hookie from work during the week so we could have the lake to ourselves.

Kids came along, and we just got so busy that we sold the boat and spent most of our time raising 3 boys, going to baseball, football, and hockey games. As the kids got older, we both missed boating (it does get in your blood and never leaves) so we finally bought a new competition ski boat in '96 (Malibu Sunsetter) to celebrate the completion of my MBA. We live near Denver, and have used it as much as we could over the last 8 years.

Right after we bought the boat, we attended a travel/boat show and there happened to be a group from LOTO trying to convince people that it wasn't that long a drive from Denver. Well, with my roots being what they are, I took that hook, line, and sinker, and we have made at least a trip a year to vacation in the Ozarks.

We love it so much there that we actually bought a lakefront home last September, and managed to use it 40 + days in the last year. It's quite a bit busier now of course, so we have both come to the conclusion (she is a terrific partner!) that we "need" a bigger boat to be comfortable when it's busy. So, I've been researching & reading all I can, trying to choose the right boat. I'm convinced it's an offshore performance boat, however she is thinking a cruiser with more passenger room is a better choice. I've got more work to do there, but I personally have already chosen a Formula 336, partially from reading what some of you here have said.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it....

Barry

JM,
We have been up at Marblehead since 1987. We have a dock at Bay Point, but keep the boat on the trailer. I like having the Lake or Bay option when going out. They also have the nice floating docks now. BUT, still no pool!! :( I also have been looking at property, but can’t pull the trigger. If you like condos, they did a great job at Point Falls. If you want lots, then I would suggest Johnson Island. That is if money is no object. Although there are still some inside lots of the water at a reasonable price. I will keep a lookout for you at the Casino! Think summer! :drink: Can’t wait for my boat show fix! Although with no NM, wonder who will have the big power?

Ok I am a lurker also, as you can see by my Join date and my low post count. I do visit the site just about everyday. I no longer have a boat had Z-22 Donzi have two little kids with a third on the way so something had to give. I love fast boats. WOW feels good to get that off my chest thanks for your time. Hi, my name is Mark. I'm 25 and originally from Lake Minnetonka, MN, but have been living permanently in Ft. Lauderdale for the past few years. I'm definitely a lurker...and proud of it!! I love reading all the various posts and want to start taking a more active role in a few of them. I'm on here at least an hour a day. My passion has always been performance boats, and I have a biased towards the "older-styled" boats with the hard lines of the old cigs, apaches, sutphens, pantera, powerplay, etc....

I have a black on black 18 Donzi classic. The boat is ran primarily on Lake Minnetonka. Have gone through two engines and three drives, and am seriously considering dropping in a new factory Mercruiser coupled to an ASD #6. George Desmond's Donzi looks like the way to go! I will post some pics of it when I find some. I also captain 2 Cary 70s and a Cary 50 down here in s. fla. I loved reading some of the posts about the old Carys and Cobras and whatnot. I never get tired of looking at pics of the old Cobras and small Carys and flatdeck Cigs.

I see some of you guys boat down here in the Miami, N. Miami area all the time, and maybe now would stop and say "hi" to a fellow OSO'er!!
