Bill, believe it or not, when I was a little kid, my dad used to take us to that island in his 1960 Grady White 18' Runabout with a 75HP Evinrude on it! What a beautiful boat! I had the classic lapstrake wood hull and mahogany decks. It was ALWAYS garage kept until a couple years ago, when he donated it to the Mariners Museum in Newport News, VA.
That island was never that busy back in the early 70's!

Cool. We used to fish the Canadian side on my dad's late 50's or early 60's, 16' mahogany Thompson with a 75hp Evinrude. That motor seemed like it was 3 feet across. We'd have to strip and varnish the deck every couple years and he kept it at Mitchells Bay. We never knew about the bays and islands on the US side back then.

I love Michigan. You get all the seasons here the great lakes and lake st clair. Lake st clair is the heaviest navigated body of water in the world. Lots of things to do in michigan. The people that complain should move if they dont like it.

I agree..
I was born & raised in Brooklyn, NY and my BF is from MI (Irish Hills..Brooklyn) area..i've visited there for years and decided to move there..i've been to the UP a few times and feel in love with the Les Cheneaux Islands area when we spent a week up there last July..i'm so happy to be moving there..not only to live under the same roof as him but just because I have totally fallen in love with the state itself
Culture shock? you bet..but i've lived all over the country..and by far..MI is my favorite so far

Michigan has and leads to some of the best boatinf in the country. THe hot and dead sexy great lakes, the Les Cheneaux Islands, the North Channel lake st clair and the parties, mackinaw Island just to mane a few. Plus there is a ton of industry in michigan so we are still growing in the union. Great place to live.
