Good luck with your fight.
The only thing we have here is a noise law and the 4 cops on the 120 mile lake rarely use it. Well.... every now and then! |

Whats next, having the Broads be a no wake zone  15th year of 45 mph speed limits. Its not that bad though. They really cant enforce it to well. You can see the cop boats coming a mile away. You just cant act like an A-hole and they leave ya alone. |

Re: Speed Limt Law on Winnipesaukee!!!
That sucks - what happened to live free or die? It was only a matter of time - Texas is were its at. Clean fresh water - low cost of living and about as much boating season as anywhere - You just have to make the move!

Re: Speed Limt Law on Winnipesaukee!!!
Down here our biggest PITA is the Manatee Zones, which they WILL bust you for. Of course the water cops will Hammer Down through a MZ to catch someone running 25mph. I would love to have someone get a video of a cop running over a manatee while chasing a speeder. That would be a gift from heaven.
It's been pretty well determined that 90% or better of boating related manatee deaths are by large commercial boats and barges. So of course it's the "pleasure boats" that the zealots go after, then of course the Save the Manatee club which has told so many lies that at this point it's "nose" could circle the Earth at least fifteen times. |
Re: Speed Limt Law on Winnipesaukee!!!
Pantera, good luck outrunning them. You gonna do a bunch of circles around the lake till they run out of gas? :D :D[/QUOTE]
 With all the boats to get lost among, and all the places to hide, and the size of the Lake.......It can be done..........   :evilb: |
Re: Speed Limt Law on Winnipesaukee!!!
This thread is out of hand. It has gone from lets fight this as a group, to people from MA suck and they are the cause of the problem, to people with jetski's suck, to old people suck, to I will just out run them.
Again we are our own worst eneemy. If you guys think that they are not reading this post you are mistaken. This site is a well known site. People from all the lake Winni sites, the Long Lake sites and so on all visit hear for ammo to booste their sapport. You better believe that they are printing out Pantera1's posts and will have it at the meatings to show how irrisponsible that we are. Instead of *****ing about it why don't you organize as has been said by Ron P a very well laid out plan to fight this RATIONALLY. If you think that this will just go away or that you will outrun them good luck. They will catch you eventually and the law will pass. We thought that they would just go away eventually with the noise restructions on Long Lake, so we did nothing about it. Well now we have them. Jon |

OK im out of this thread and have done the best I can to remove anything that anyone might misconstrue as maliciuos behavior by someone with a speedy boat ..
And by all means dont want to offend anyone from MA , even you radio .. CMG maybe you should just poof it so jon doesn't cry :D Oh ya I will be in concord wed .. anyone else ?????? |
Re: Speed Limt Law on Winnipesaukee!!!
:( Hey guys, remember we all mean well and have the best of intentions for this situation.

Re: Speed Limt Law on Winnipesaukee!!!
Cry? Hardly. I only go to Lake Winni once a year to the Donzi gathering. So this really has very little effect on my life. I know for a fact however that this board is ready often by the "opposition" and they take stuff like running from the cops and making a sceen at the town hall meatings and will twist it any way they see fit. That only looks bad for us. Lastly you seem to think that you are a local in NH. Well I always figure that you have to be born in a town to be a local. Certainly living some place for a year does not make one a local. I am sure that MA does not miss you :p :p

Re: Speed Limt Law on Winnipesaukee!!!
Ron P or anyone from NJ. Do you guys have any other suggestions for these guys as to what they should do?
So far it looks like a list of all the accident reports from the Marine Patrol to show that most all the accidents did not have anything to do with speed. When you presented that did you just show accidents with out speed or did you include the ones with speed also to show the true ratios? What other aguments were made. I know that you got the new on your side how did you do that? CMG have you contacted the local Marina's to make sure that they are aware of this problem? I would think places like Silver Sands and hell even the Nassua would want to know. Nassua has a very large base of customers that have boats that go faster then 45mph. As Pantera said most any boat made now goes over 45 MPH so they are really limiting everyone. Is there a base of Bass fishermen up there that can be contacted? They are ussually very organized and also have boats that go well into the 80MPH range I will look over at the Donzi Web site and see if anyone has posted this up there. I know that there are a lot of members on that site that live on Lake Winni or around there. Jon |

Re: Speed Limt Law on Winnipesaukee!!!
I stopped posting on the Winni site long ago cuz they are brutal over there, if you're not paddling your canoe, you're not welcome - just ask Biggus, (he got slaughtered over there). And I agree, I have been on that lake since I was 10 months old, (when my Dad had a 16' Glastron w/ a 120hp Merc. in it) and since we own a house on the lake and I own a boat that is capable of more than 45 mph., I feel an obligation to be involved. Not to mention the need to echo everyones sentiment that we NEED to be rational about this, you'll get more flies with honey then vinegar. Let's put together a strategy and a plan and go at them on their own level. Dan's accident didn't help this, but let's look at the big picture and make them realize that speed is the least of the problems on that lake!!

http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/...light=offshore here is their thread on the speed limit; http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/...light=offshore I was surprised to see this: http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/...ead.php?t=1432 This poll will close on 01-29-2005 at 11:47 AM I strongly feel the state should implement a 45 mph speed limit! 7 22.58% I think a speed limit on certain parts of the lake might be appropriate, perhaps higher than 45mph. 2 6.45% I don’t care either way. 1 3.23% I don’t think we need a speed limit. 4 12.90% I am strongly opposed to any speed limit on the lake! 17 54.84% Voters: 31. You have already voted on this poll Join and post! |
Re: Speed Limt Law on Winnipesaukee!!!
I just went into the first site to lurk. One rubberhead states that anyone going over 45 "isn't going that fast to get somewhere, but for the thrill of it". What in the hell is wrong with getting a thrill outta life????? They need to put that idiot in a box, put it in the ground, and throw the dirt on it.
It's bad having a thrill? That's one of the absolute stupidest moronic things I have ever read. Thank God I live down here. I couldn't take those azzholes. |
Re: Speed Limt Law on Winnipesaukee!!!
Heres one from " Bear Lover"
Your missing the point. A speed limit is not what the majority want. What they want is those "big, loud, gas guzzling, mine is bigger than yours" boats off of the lake. A speed limit is what they will use as the way to do it. Nobody is going to spend a small fortune to keep a muscle boat on a lake with a 45 mph limit. And after the speed limit passes they will want a horse power limit, or some other method, to get the cabin cruisers off the lake. If you really think it can't happen read the list of NH lakes with speed and or horsepower limits. It's about 1 in 3. Bear lover is a non email or im recieving person .. And im not positive about this but I think beastiality is illegal in NH  |

Good luck with the fight, I believe this same fight will be coming to many areas in the next few years. That's the reason I boat, because I can go fast with out breaking any laws, I hope we don't loose this, it will be a sad day when a stock 16' Bayliner can break the speed limit on a large lake. :( :( Caleb |

We *****ed about the noise laws that were being forced on us up at our lake in Maine. All we did however was ***** about it over beer at the fire. There was not organized effort to get together and gather facts to fight it. Seems it very well may be the same hear. As Pantera said there is already a large number of lakes on Winni that have speed limits and there will be more and more. There are already plenty of MP's on the lake, they seem to find all of us already..... Jon |
Re: Speed Limt Law on Winnipesaukee!!!
I think that although that loosing taking out that family is what they definatly use as thier head liner for the argument that all this was coming anyhow. Just look at all the lakes that did not have an accident like this but have the speed limits.

Re: Speed Limt Law on Winnipesaukee!!!
I participated in the several hearings to impose noise and speed limits on Lake Travis in Austin, TX.
The noise ordinance passed but it is somewhat reasonable. The speed limit failed because the chief warden for boating law enforcement in the state said that he had plenty of laws on the books to arrest any person who was driving in a dangerous way and he didn't need any more laws. ---and that it didn't make any sense to allow a boat to 65 or 70 mph through a crowded area on a busy weekend and then arrest a bass boat for running 75 on a clear deserted Wednesday morning when nobody else was on the lake. We were all pleasantly dumbfounded by his refreshing and practical approach to a contrived problem. About that time, the BWI boating while intoxicated, laws were strengthened considerably. This was supported by all the boaters. One thing the cops always like is more law (so they can enforce it capriciously). But this was not the case here in grand ole TEXAS. One thing is that the advocates will cite all the increase in boating accidents and injuries over the past ten years. Most of that increase is attributed to jet skiers and there is nothing in the data to support that the problem is the cigarette boats. Also, look at the data as linked to night time versus daytime boating. So in addition to the BWI offense it is linked to your drivers license so you can loose the car privileges if operating the boat with a certain blood alcohol content. Another suggestion is the that state require a short training video for anyone renting a PWC. This was enacted and has helped solve the rash of PWC accidents being counted as boating accidents. It is best to go to the meeting armed with a proactive plan. There was even a study done by an independent consulting firm and they surveyed lake users and lake property owners. Of course the property owners don't want anyone on their water, especially the noisy cigar boats. News flash, it is not their water and things will never be like the tranquil secluded days of yesteryear. The consulting firm came back with several ludicrous suggestions like putting all the big boats on the small end of the lake and the small boats on the big end of the lake and certain coves reserved for jet skis and others reserved for quiet waters. They really had no credibility. |
Re: Speed Limt Law on Winnipesaukee!!!
Makes me glad to live 20 mins from Eastern end of Lake Ontario as well as Alex Bay.
There's limited areas of speed limit on the St. Lawrence (though in reality you only get hassled if your way loud, too much over in a speed zone or operating like an idiot)....and they (establishment fuds and old money types along the River) rattle their Albany based sabres about more...truth is they (Albany/taxpayers) will never knowingly dedicate the kind of $$$ it would take to broaden the scale of speed limits and enforcements on the River...it's just too big an area, not to mention international. ;) If by chance it got more opressive, places like the Great Lakes themselves will be the last freshwater bastion of performance boating as loud and fast as you want...for a long time to come! I truly feel for you inland lake types. Fight the good fight in an intelligent fashion is your only chance, and more than likely all you'll ever get is the potential to put off the inevitable. Good Luck. |
