Blizzard Of '05

National weather service issued a blizzard warning. 12-24" of snow expected to hit Saturday afternoon thru Sunday. As of 5;30am it's 1 degree above zero. If I can remember I'll take the the camera with me tonight and post some pics later this weekend. The plow is on and it will be a long weekend.

Cig,

I am with you man it is going to be a long weekend. I have both of my snow plow trucks gased up and waiting in the driveway to go work. Where are you on the Island? Will be cool to post pics around the Island to see what we actually get. I hope they are right this time!! But I do believe we are due for a good snowfall this year.
Good luck tonight and be safe.

Don

P.S. There is only one good thing about snow. Gas money for the next summer.

9 Degree's and about 5 or 6 inches so far and it's still snowing like crazy and pretty good wind blowing making things a little more interesting. 50 miles north east of Detroit - kids are wishing it was monday so they could have a snow day - be safe everyone.

We're out by Pt Jeff and have some condo's, pkg lots etc. Running in between there and Ronkonkoma. Hopefully there right and not like last weds"1-2" turned out to be 3-5". Hopefully it will pay for the slip and insurance.
Good luck to you as well, dont break anything!

10" so far from last night, here in Grand Haven and it is really coming down. This is added to the 10" we got tuesday night. This we not help the frozen and flooded river problem that made world news last night. Lake levels should be up this spring. Steve

Re: Blizzard Of '05

You guys thought you had it bad with snow, well here is what we have to contend with in addition to the snow.

...ATLANTIC NJ-ATLANTIC COASTAL CAPE MAY NJ-CAPE MAY NJ- COASTAL ATLANTIC NJ-COASTAL OCEAN NJ-EASTERN MONMOUTH NJ- MIDDLESEX NJ-OCEAN NJ-SOUTHEASTERN BURLINGTON NJ-WESTERN MONMOUTH NJ-
... COASTAL FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR SUNDAY MORNING...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MOUNT HOLLY NJ MAINTAINS A COASTAL FLOOD WATCH FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF MODERATE TIDAL FLOODING AROUND THE TIME OF HIGH TIDE ALONG THE NEW JERSEY COAST AND RARITAN BAY.

LOW PRESSURE IS FORECAST TO MOVE OFF THE MID ATLANTIC COAST THIS EVENING AND THEN INTENSIFY RAPIDLY. IT IS FORECAST TO GENERATE SUSTAINED NORTH TO NORTHEAST WINDS OVER THE COASTAL WATERS OF 20 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 45 MPH BY EARLY SUNDAY MORNING.

THE STRONG WINDS MAY CAUSE MODERATE TIDAL FLOODING ALONG THE OCEAN FRONT AROUND THE TIME OF HIGH TIDE EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. MODERATE TIDAL FLOODING BEGINS AT AROUND 7.5 FEET ABOVE MEAN LOWER LOW WATER. HIGH TIDE IN THE BACK BAYS OCCURS LATER THAN ALONG THE OCEAN FRONT AND CAN REACH HEIGHTS OF 1 FOOT HIGHER THAN ON THE COAST. HEAVY SURF AND MODERATE BEACH EROSION ARE ALSO POSSIBLE.

FOR SANDY HOOK, THE SUNDAY MORNING HIGH TIDE WILL OCCUR AT 622 AM EST WITH A FORECAST HEIGHT OF 7.5 TO 8.0 FEET. FOR SEASIDE HEIGHTS ON THE OCEAN FRONT, THE SUNDAY MORNING HIGH TIDE WILL OCCUR AT 552 AM EST WITH A FORECAST HEIGHT OF AROUND 7.5 FEET.

FOR ATLANTIC CITY ON THE OCEAN FRONT, THE SUNDAY MORNING HIGH TIDE WILL OCCUR AT 629 AM EST WITH A FORECAST HEIGHT OF 7.5 TO 8.0 FEET.

FOR CAPE MAY ON THE OCEAN FRONT, THE SUNDAY MORNING HIGH TIDE WILL OCCUR AT 629 AM EST WITH A FORECAST HEIGHT OF 7.5 TO 8.0 FEET. REMEMBER, A COASTAL FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT MODERATE OR GREATER COASTAL FLOODING IS POSSIBLE. MODERATE TIDAL FLOODING BEGINS AT AROUND 7.5 FEET ABOVE MEAN LOWER LOW WATER AND SEVERE TIDAL FLOODING BEGINS AROUND 8.5 FEET. COASTAL RESIDENTS IN THE WATCH AREA SHOULD MONITOR THIS DEVELOPING WEATHER EVENT....

Re: Blizzard Of '05

And this, so far....

... WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING FOR 10 TO 15 INCHES OF SNOW...

A DANGEROUS WINTER STORM WILL AFFECT THE ENTIRE AREA TODAY INTO SUNDAY MORNING. SNOW IS EXPECTED TO ARRIVE IN EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA, FAR NORTHEAST MARYLAND, NORTHERN DELAWARE AND SOUTHWEST NEW JERSEY LATE THIS MORNING, AND IT WILL ARRIVE IN THE BULK OF THE REST OF NEW JERSEY BY THIS AFTERNOON. TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS FOR THE ENTIRE EVENT ARE FORECAST TO AVERAGE 10 TO 15 INCHES ACROSS THE AREA.

TRAVEL CONDITIONS WILL BECOME EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS AND ALL UNNECESSARY TRAVEL IS NOT RECOMMENDED ONCE THE HEAVY SNOW BEGINS. FOLLOW THE DIRECTION OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND POLICE IN YOUR AREA. DRIVING CONDITIONS SHOULD START IMPROVING LATER SUNDAY.

THE UPCOMING WINTER STORM WILL HAVE TWO PHASES. THE FIRST PHASE WILL FEATURE VERY HEAVY SNOW SATURDAY AFTERNOON INTO SATURDAY EVENING WHERE MOST OF THE ACCUMULATING SNOW IS EXPECTED TO OCCUR. THE SNOW IS EXPECTED TO FALL SO HEAVILY THAT NEAR WHITE-OUT CONDITIONS ARE LIKELY WITH RATES POSSIBLY REACHING ONE TO TWO INCHES PER HOUR. THE SECOND PHASE OCCURRING OVERNIGHT INTO SUNDAY MORNING WILL FEATURE LIGHTER SNOW, BUT CONSIDERABLY STRONGER WINDS. THIS WILL CAUSE BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF WHAT IS EXPECTED TO BE A VERY LIGHT AND FLUFFY SNOW. THIS MAY CAUSE BLIZZARD CONDITIONS AT TIMES.

ANOTHER FACTOR WILL BE THE VERY LOW WIND CHILLS. AS WINDS INCREASE TONIGHT INTO SUNDAY, WIND CHILL FACTORS WILL DROP BELOW ZERO ACROSS NORTHEAST PENNSYLVANIA AND NORTHWEST NEW JERSEY AND THE SINGLE NUMBERS ELSEWHERE.

PEOPLE WHO FIND IT NECESSARY TO VENTURE OUTSIDE SHOULD WEAR MULTIPLE LAYERS OF CLOTHING, GLOVES AND A HAT. LIMIT THAT OUTDOOR TIME TO A MINIMUM. PETS WHO ARE KEPT OUTDOORS WILL REQUIRE, AT A MINIMUM, A STRONG AND WELL INSULATED SHELTER TO PROTECT THEM FROM THE COLD, WIND AND SNOW AND ACCESS TO PLENTY OF UNFROZEN WATER. THE MOST HUMANE THING TO DO IS TO BRING YOUR PETS INDOORS. AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE WAS LOCATED OVER THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER VALLEY EARLY THIS MORNING. IT IS FORECAST TO MOVE TO THE OHIO VALLEY LATER THIS MORNING AND CROSS THE CENTRAL APPALACHIANS THIS AFTERNOON. A SECONDARY LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IS THEN FORECAST TO DEVELOP OVER THE DELMARVA COASTAL WATERS THIS EVENING AND INTENSIFY RAPIDLY. THE LOW SHOULD BE WELL EAST OF OUR REGION BY SUNDAY AFTERNOON....
