I have a 97 Baha 240 w/ 454 mercruiser 310 hp gen VI carb engine. I want to hop it up a bit with a bigger roller cam. Does anyone have any idea what heads mercruiser puts on these engines? The boat is in storage and I want to do some mods for the upcoming season. I have a feeling the heads are the "peanut port" heads like on trucks.
I have some early oval port chevell heads I can use also if i need to.

I would not do anything to increase the RPMs of this engine. All of the internals are cast and brittle. The block is strong but the components are weak. Crank, rods, rod bolts especially, and the pistons are cast.

I agree with robyw1.... been there with a 95' 454 in my scarab... BANG!! if your going in, take it all the way down and build it with the right parts. I slipped in a cam and a few other parts... took out crank, rods, piston..... would have spent less money doing the right way from the start.... Good Luck!
