I did not read the article, but Popular Science reviewed laptops under $900. Sounds like the info you are looking for. I think it is the recent issue, or last months. Not sure if they reviewed the model VanWolske is referring to....

Sorry but the warranty doesn't cover that

If you decide on an IBM Thinkpad, send me the part/model number you're interested in.
I've been in the business for more than 10 years and have dealt with Toshiba, Dell, Compaq, IBM, HP and Dell. My personal laptops have always been IBM. Hands down, they are the best. They are a business class machine built to withstand the rigors of travel.

The only Dell laptop I have recommended had nothing but problems from the moment I opened the box. I only recommended it based on the customer's budget and would never do that again.

The Toshiba Portege and Tecra were okay, but a bit flimsy in my opinion. Compaq Armadas were ok, bu tnow that HP bought Compaq, I would touch it(they should stick to the printer business).

IBM used to be an expensive laptop but their prices have come down and they are now affordable for the average consumer as well. go with the T Series or better and you be a happy camper.
