Kilo run dates are set

For those of you that don't read Extreme Boats Magazine, there's a full page ad in this months issue inviting the fastest of the fast to an elite kilo run. This is not for offshore race boats, rather poker run and pleasure boats with all the comforts.

It's an APBA-UIM sanctioned event and records will be set in four new classes.

Performance Yacht mono - Gas
Performance Yacht cat - Gas
Performance Yacht mono - Turbine
Performance Yacht cat - Turbine

The kilo will be held on April 21 and 22 on Lake Crescent in Crescent City Florida. It's sponsored by AMF Racing, Extreme Boats Magazine and Turbine Marine Inc.

Hopefully, Dave Callan's new boat will be done in time and Bob Russell has shown interest in running there too, plus plenty of turbine boats.

More info and registration forms can be found at www.amfoffshoreracing.com.

It should be a few fun days, see ya there!!!!!

Ron

Re: Kilo run dates are set

There will be a non sanctioned "run what you brung" day on Friday for anyone who want to see how fast their boat. It will have the full Kilo setup with officials from Region 11 and safety teams including helocopter. Awards and trophies for the fastest. All boats must meet minimum safety requirements and rules and registration info is in the ad or check out www.amfoffshoreracing.com.
Like a LOTO shootout with Kilo timing equipment

Performance Yachts will attempt APBA/UIM records as well as Bass Boats and Pontoon boats

This event is not in any way associated with SBI/APBA offshore and no official records will be set by offshore boats

Re: Kilo run dates are set

i think it is just the four above, run what you brung sounds like....

Crescent City is about 30 miles west of Daytona Beach, FL. The lake is
2 miles wide and 14 miles long and brackish.

Sean, I have not been there yet.
Details are being finalized for Ken Warby "the fastest man on water" www.kenwarby.com to be there as a celebrity guest.
Ken is used to speeds in excess of 300mph so this may bore him a bit :evilb:

I posted this on the Scream & Fly website (mostly OPC's & Drags ) but they race on lake Stella across town from Lake Crescent.

I'll post here any thing about the venue I hear from the other site.

The race boat kilos will be run by SBI/APBA at another time. That's why this is for non race boats - at least these four classes.

Performance Yacht mono - Gas
Performance Yacht cat - Gas
Performance Yacht mono - Turbine
Performance Yacht cat - Turbine

Performance Yacht is a pleasure boat with a cabin, not a race boat. (Scott is that accurate?)

These four classes will get APBA-UIM records. Any other boat that wants to run through the course can do so during the non sanctioned run what ya brung portion of the event. Even race boats could show up for this day.

If Outerlimits and Fountain show up, they will be running for Performance Yacht Mono - Gas. While AMF racing (our Host) will be running his 51 Outerlimits with turbines for the Performance Yacht Mono - Turbine record.

These are four new classes that APBA established for this event. (Turbines were never used in pleasure boats before recently) So the highest speed at this event will set the record.
Basically, this started as an all turbine event, but it had to be opened up to other classes in order to get the APBA-UIM sanction.

Re: Kilo run dates are set

Ron, you will be sent a set of rules. Performance yacht must have what APBA refers to as "Creature comforts" and the rules are a little involved.
I do not believe Reggie or the GTX would comply. It would be great to see them go head to head in a timed Kilo though.
There are a # of reasons this is not affiliated with SBI/APBA offshore, but mainly it is because, in order to attempt a kilo record for offshore, a boat has to have placed in an offshore race and these performance yachts such as AMF are not race boats. It is 51 ft with AC, Generator, full kitchen, queen size bed, fridge, and 42 inch plasma screen TV.
Did I mention we will attempt to go 150- 160mph inthis condo  :evilb:

This event is sanctioned by mother APBA. Do not confuse the two

I've only been to the races on the othere Lake (Stella)across town.

There is a race there in about two weeks (lake Stella) and I will try and jump over to Lake Crescent and see what there is and then post a photo album for all to see the venues.

Crescent City is NOT a Sarasota, Key West, Deerfield etc.as far as emenities. It apperars as though they are however very very interested in holding races there. It may be a good backup for venues such as St Cloud..

I hope the word gets out to Hydra Powerboats. Some of the yacht cats he has built were tested with amazing results.

I believe they may be down in that area too!

Re: Kilo run dates are set

Scott,

I just spoke with Jack at Hydra. He doesn't have anything for a Kilo Run.

He said if they had a class for the "Most Fuel Effecient" hull he could probably win that. :drink:

Most of his customers wanted superb cruising distances and the boats were built for that.
Extremely light weight, vacuum bagged epoxy/vinyl-ester built boats.

He has had several right ups on his boats I believe in Yachting and one other mag for the performance. They all have great reviews and test results for their effeciency.

Lately he has been doing some interesting things with the large Vee Hulls. There's one being rigged right now with Mercury's latest digital technology controls.

Another 43 is in the works, but it is confidential. Customer wants no word of it getting out...
So it looks like we should all be in for a surprise when that one's done!
I wonder who this customer is???

He has done some amazing stuff. He is one of NJ's low-key boat builders that has the advancements of technology that all the top boat builders are utiliziing today such as Outerlimits. He can afford to do it for less only because his marketing budget doesn't come near to what the other boat builders are spending. With Hydra, it is mainly by referrals and the quality of the boats that he has built for the last 20 years. Still not one warranty claim to this day for hull failure.

The paint work looks even better in person. Also, if you look real close at the artist's signature on the transom, there is a hidden picture.

The ducts on the bow feed both the 1st step as well as force air into the engine compartment.
