Re: need advice on garage size
In the process of building mine now, 40x80 , with 10x12 doors and 14' high ceilings. Travel lift to pull out motors is 12' tall, make the doors wide enough for what ever????

built mine last year , 30' wide 40' deep , 12' foot in the center with 4 - 10' tall 12' wide doors. 4 doors are great for breez control. 28 cig has plenty of room. 40x60 would be real nice but that is a big building. going steel or cinder block?

What kind of a building are you looking to put up? If you don't want to spend the money right now, at least plan for the future. I currently have a 30'x50' building and it's too small. It's amazing how fast one fills up. It really is. I would recommend a 40' width as being the minimum. My 30' works, but it's hard to get past two rows of stuff with the work benches and storage along the walls. So start with the 40' width and go as deep as you budget allows. Set the building off the setback line so you can expand back later. These buildings are very easy to add on to so the cost increase won't be too dramatic. Regarding ceiling height, I have 14' and would have gone higher if possible. By the time you hang lights and heaters, the head room can start to get low. My door is 12'x12' and I'm very happy with the size. Could have been 10' high and still worked.

Re: need advice on garage size
[QUOTE=timewarp]A good rule of thumb is the garage needs to be at least 12' longer than the boat you want to store in it. A 36' boat with a Trailer with Drive guards will just fit in a 48' stall, if you want room to work around it you will need more length.
That said Bigger is better.[/QUOTE
I built a 40x48 14' sidwalls and 14wx12tall doors. My 357 on a trailer with drive guards is a snug fit. If I could do it over it would be a 40x60. That would have been perfect. Good luck.
