37 AT Prop Test Results
After a long winter project too re-build my HP500's,in the 37 Active Thunder, got some time on them today with 5 different sets of props.
1) 30 stock bravo's,"not new" 5800rpm 87.4mph 2) 31 work bravo's "from Throttle Up" 5500&5800/ 78mph Something was terrible wrong with on of these props had major slip out of the hole and one ran 400 rpm more than the other. 3) 32 stock bravo's "new" 5550 rpm 86.8 mph 4) 33 labbed Mercury "new" 5600 rpm 87.2mph 5) 30 Mercury 5 Blades "new" 5300rpm 84mph Over all the Stock 32's were the best, cruise was up by 3 mph and hole shot great. The 5 blades were 6 mph faster at 3000rpm than the 32's Going to have my 30's worked into 31's and should be the perfect setup. Any suggestion's?? |
Re: 37 AT Prop Test Results
The 31's were not mine, I borrowed them from a friend, I have told him what I noticed when running them. He is going to try them on his boat first, to see if any difference.
I am sure they will fix them, they are great people. I will be sending mine to them as well. |
Re: 37 AT Prop Test Results

Re: 37 AT Prop Test Results
Hey Pat,.....No to answer your question, my peak horsepower will be at 5600 rpm, just trying to take in account for the rpm loss I will have for the summer heat, It was only 55 today and no humidity, when the summer humidity and 90 degree day I will easy loose 200/300 rpm. So I think a nice pair of worked 30's will be perfect.

Re: 37 AT Prop Test Results
What was your speed @ 3000 rpm with the 5 blades? 6 mph over 4 blades, that would be great. How much HP?
|
Re: 37 AT Prop Test Results
Yes, the 5 Blades at 3000rpm were 6 mph faster over the 32 bravo's and 8 mph over the 30 bravo's. We estimate them to have about 585hp. Another AT with 525EFI's tried the samr props and could barely get 5000rpm, so I spun them 300rpm more. Very hard shifting into gear, they are a huge prop.

Re: 37 AT Prop Test Results
Do you have XR drives? I would like to increase my cruise but I have 1990 Bravos, motors are 640 hp and I would be afraid the drives would explode!!
|
Re: 37 AT Prop Test Results
No, I have regular Bravo's, and that is what I have heard with the 5 blades that they bite so hard that if they leave the water and on re-entry are busting drives, dont want any part of that.

Re: 37 AT Prop Test Results

Re: 37 AT Prop Test Results
docmanrich,
Give us some specifics on your set up! Julie |
Re: 37 AT Prop Test Results
This is great tech info. Maybe the moderator can move it to the new Prop Talk section of Technical. It will stay up a lot longer and help more members there.
excursion: What did you do to your engines? I suspect that your drives are really too low for the five blade so they have more blade area than you actually need. It would be interesting to see what a 28 Maximus would do. |
Re: 37 AT Prop Test Results
I am running stock 28 B1s with my 496HOs. I may try labbed 28 B1s or labbed 30 B1s someday if the opportunity arises. 77.5 best speed with my stock setup. Seems as though I may have some more aerodynamic coneage on the boat this year over last year, so that may help speeds. :D :D

How would that help if she's tucked under the helm while your driving? Isn't that where everyone's girl likes to ride :D |
Re: 37 AT Prop Test Results
I plan on having several sets of aerodynamic speed enhancers on board this season, and they can ride wherever they want. Why place limitations on oneself? :D :D

Re: 37 AT Prop Test Results
Hey Steve, I spoke with Julie at length today and she said that was the prop the was hurt last year and she was going to get in touch with you about that.
Lets see about moving it to the new section. |
Re: 37 AT Prop Test Results
Also spoke with Julie at Throttle UP and Pat with Active Thunder today.
Julie thinks that my prop slip is way to high with the 30 bravo's, she caculated it to be at 24% slip needs to be around 12-15%. She recommened a 1" spacer. A friend of mine has a pair that I can try before he uses them. FREE trial cant beat that. Getting the prop in the water a little more might relate into speed? we will see. Pat said would not hurt too try but on his testing and building of the boat it is set up perfect, but anything is possible, so try away!!! Will keep updated. |

Linster should be the one to tell this, he took time from his own motor project to rebuild both my motors and many hours porting heads & painting motor parts, I am indeed forever grateful to have such a great friend.
Motor Build UP:HP 500/510 Crane cam, SRP pistons 30over & raised compression to 9 3/4 to 1, Rollmaster twin timing chains, AED 850HO carbs, ported heads, port matched intake, everything balanced, all new cam bearings, Seal pro rings, Melling oil pumps, ARP rod bolts & recondition rods,MSD soft touch rev-limiter.... Think thats about it. I am really happy with the way they have turned out ,look new and run better. |

Another part of testing this weekend, Installed 1" drive spacers. Trying to get the slip down at high speed, will post results on Sunday.

Took out the boat today, tested with a new pair of Bravo 30's and a 1" drive spacer, 72 degree's and flat water. With the wife and me, 1 cooler and a little over half tank 89mph. Picked up two other and ran 88.6 at 5600rpm.
After got back to the ramp and wiping down the boat, found this????? |
Re: 37 AT Prop Test Results
OUCH!
That *%#@ stinks! |
Re: 37 AT Prop Test Results
I can't see the props in that picture!!!!! That really sucks could you feel anything you hit?
|
Re: 37 AT Prop Test Results
Nope!! Did'nt feel a thing, I dont know, but the best part did not even put a scratch on the prop, Dont worry Lotti there perfect, Reba thought I owed you one but it is ok.
|
Re: 37 AT Prop Test Results
That torn skeg is got to be worth about 2 mile hour maybe I can try that on my boat this weekend
|
Re: 37 AT Prop Test Results
From the little I can see of the props in pic 35 it looks loike the props have a few dings. Is that just water spots?
Nice numbers in spite of the skeg. |
Re: 37 AT Prop Test Results
Just imperfections in the polish, went over each blade with my finger nail and no dings or scatchs even.
|
Re: 37 AT Prop Test Results
