Dean, If ya want primo parking you gotta be early...we get there Thursday or friday night. If ya go out late the cops just hang out in the "run" of the Glen.We get there about dark and and look for the trouble makers....lol.

If ya just wanna hang out druing the day you might be able to walk through the shore side and you will definitly be able to idle through the channel side. The lake gets crowded but there is a so-called channel between the boats were you can idle through to get iun the Glen.I can't stand the lake for any amount fo extended time...too much riff-raff...the cops don;t care and it shows.

Shor,
Thanks for the info. When you said idle thru to get to the glen, does that mean I could idle into and back out of the glen, say around noon? Are you going, if you get the "Beast" to idle? :D

Re: Memorial Day 2005 on the St. Johns River, Fl.

Here's my breakdown..
1.Carb R&R
2..Clean entire thing
3...ANOTHER Headunit and set of amps..I bought a Vette over the winter and it got the good stuff outta the boat. :evilb:
4....Fix whatever else broke that I have no idea about...

You won't have any problems at all idling through at anytime..It's just the "parking" will be limited to the not so good areas.Which works for some but I tend to like a little more action than rest..Plus I don't leave once I moor up.

Have you not been to the Glen?....what are ya floatin there in?

Shor,
Sounds cool, as long as I can Idle in and find a place to park, I'll have the family with me, so the "PG-13" side of the glen will be better this time. :D I was there back in 91', in a 21' Hydrostream. Went with some people from St. Cloud. Never made it into the Glen, just sat out by the inlet.
This year we will be in our new boat, 35' Nordic Flame, see attached Pic.

I'd be careful even idling in there in that big of a boat. I was nervous when I took my 18 CC up there on July 3rd. People are swimming all over the place. I'd NEVER even attempt to take my 302 with the surface drives up there. I'd have a people blender.

Gator 1, I saw your boat yesterday at John's shop. He was showing me the air activated crash boxes for it. Very trick.

Cuda,
Thanks for the warning. We'll see what it's like when we get up there around 12. It's not imperative that we hang out in the glen, we will probobly go north of lake george exploring also.
It's going to be a GREAT TIME!

When is Memorial Day?

cuda 04-09-2005 04:28 PM

Re: Memorial Day 2005 on the St. Johns River, Fl.

Dean, there are a lot of bigger boats than mine or yours up in there, it's just that I am probably an over cautious boater. You might be ok with going through there.

Cuda,
Memorial day is 5/30/05, Monday. We'll be @ Hontoon's 5/27-30/05. Hope to see you up there.

I was asking because if you launch at 44, you can park your trailer here at my place if you want, and we can run you back to your boat. I live about a mile away.

Dean, Joe
I'm planning a trip up there next month but it wont be on Mem weekend. I cant handle crowds, and I'll prob want to go up to Jax. How far from around Sanford/Deland to Jax? I figure a half day run if not to many no wake zones. You gonna be around there any other time?

Dan

Re: Memorial Day 2005 on the St. Johns River, Fl.

Dan, I'm guessing 90 to 100 miles or so by boat. It's about 110 from my house to the bridge on the river at I295 by car.

Cuda,
Thanks for the offer. I'll see how launching goes @ Hontoons....

Dan,
This is a once in 10 year boat trip for us. We hardly ever put the boat on the trailer these days. Just wanted to do something different and that's close to home. I too, am thinking about driving up to jacksonville, via the St, Johns, but I don't know if it will be this trip.

You can most defintily idle throught the channel side at even the busiest times...the other side near the park is a no-no...even depth wise I am pushing it with my little 23'.

I'm attempting to revive the old Bay...took a few minutes but she fired up but still no idle..LOL...took the carb off finally and Dear god I Have no idea how it even ran.The bowls are nasty green and something made a cucoon of sorts on one side..Seriuosly a cucoon. One of the Jets was clogged and the needles even had build-up.I'm not even sure I can clean all the crap out...ARGH!!..anyone got a Quadracrap they don't need..I sure could us it.

I got out on the bike today and did some scouting. My buddy and I rode to a restaurant on the river that neither of us had been to. It's called Swamp House Grill in Debary. Bruce probably knows it. It was a nice place in a gorgeous setting right on the river.

Brett, is your boat set up for one man operation also, or do you need a throttleman?

I can run solo

ChrisK 04-10-2005 10:08 PM

but why run solo? I volunteer my services of throttleman(or driver), deck hand, trailer backer, and overall helper!

Went to the Glen over this past weekend, weather was great, water was fantastic(as always), gators were out in abundance(and big too), and the best part of the day was getting to spank a 24zx Donzi with a big block, coming across Lk. George. Oh and you can always put the bimini up when the sun gets to be to much.

I hope the gators are laying low for Memorial Day weekend. The wife is NOT a gator fan! She won't let the kids out of the boat if she sees gators!
