Default Timing chain and gears

I am building 2 509 Gen 6 motors. What is the favorite timing chain and gear set?? I was thinking about the Cloyes Hex-Adjust double roller.

Anybody feel differently ??

I was under impression with the 6 bolt gen 6 cover the hex adjust comes in a big single roller that resembles a stock chain? Smitty

I have installed a Cloyes hex adjust double roller chain in my gen 6 502 block. The timing cover is an Imco cast aluminum. I used a gen 4 style cam with a thrust button.I cannot say if the same chain will work with gen 6 style cam.

Cloyes actually makes the Hex Adjust for a GenVI. I had one in my motor but took it out after more than one of my fellow race motor builders expressed concern!
But it is available and it will fit under your timing cover on the snout of a GenVI cam (provided that is what you have).

The GenVI design that utilizes the thrust plate is a far better design than using a thrust button as was used in the GEN IV & V motors. In fact, Merc had used the thrust plate design in the later versions of the GenV HP 500's. It must have been a custom ground cam because the older style timing gears worked!!

You want a Rollmaster with Iwis Chain. Their Gen 6 set will fit under the stock cover. The Iwis German chain is the best.

The reason that I did what I did was because that I already owned the Cam and Timing Cover.
