Help with Cam Choice PLEASE!!!!

Hi All,

I am building my boat motor and need some help.
First off the boat is a 1978 21' Eliminator Mini-Daycruiser V-Drive. I live in Colorado and will be using the boat at 4100' or above in elavation. Motor specs are as follows,

454 bored .30 over
10.5 to 1 compression
Forged SRP pistons 212135
Large oval port heads GM 3983820
113cc chambers, 255cc intake runners, 114cc exaust runners
Forged GM LS6 crank
Eagle I-beam rods
Edelbrock RPM Air-Gap Intake
Holley 750 Double Pumper
MSD Pro Billet Dist. w/6AL brain
Crane Roller Rockers
All hardware is ARP

I am looking for 500+ horses with out the cost of having to go full roller valve train. Any help is greatly appreciated. Any other advise would also be helpful. Thanks in advance.

"rmbuilder" (Bob) would be at least one good person to talk to here on OSO. He has the knowledge, experience, and integrity to help you when making the correct cam choice for your application.

Your exhaust system will be real important in deciding how far you can go with the cam. Overlap is limited with a wet exhaust.

Exaust has not been decided on yet, but will most likely be wet due to more of a family use and closed engine compartment. I was thinking of going with Revolution or something along those lines.

A good flat tappet solid cam about 575 to 600 lift and around 230 to 240 @ .050 duration on a 112 sep.

With your altitude, HP desire and block size...is there money in the budget for a 6:71? You could then use a flat tappet cam and either log manifolds or overtransom headers. With a NA engine, those headers will need to be a very efficient design.

I wish there was money in the budget for a charger but not at the moment. Anybody else want to put in there 2 cents?

JC Performance just built a 454 for Stormrider with the solid flat tappet cam he described to you.
The engine dyno'd at like 570HP @ 5800.
You will need long risers with wet exhaust to run a cam that big though...
Good Luck!
