You will definitly have the edge this summer, but then blower motors and NA motors aren't really apples to apples..

I am assuming you are saying the Baja is the blower motor but are you saying the twin turbo'd Check is a NA motor?

TJ,
I think they are talking about a different Check. The 30' turboed Check runs pretty decent boost!!!

Two different boats! My buddies boat Top Secret is NA.. the twin turbo'd boat is Check300's boat.

They are both 28' Convincers. Checkmate now calls it a 30 because they dont sell it without a swim platform. Model change to protect the marketing, I guess.

I read your post about the Checkmates with interest. I have ridden in the twin turbo'd Check and it is purely awesome! Not to open a can of worms, Top Secert is a close friend of mine and your recollection of meeting him... well it just didnt sound like him. We have been boating together for 15 yrs. Being a Checkmate man myself, I decided to give him a call and see if he could recollect that meeting. Without any prompting, it seems that his recall was a bit different. He does remember running with you and he was impressed with your boat's speed. More like 1 1/2 miles and you two were pretty close at the 84mph mark, verified by his GPS and his Gaffrig GPS speedo. At the boat launch you mention something about another prop would have put you in front. He mentioned that his boat was not running up to par and that the week previous he ran 91 mph on the radar gun at LOTO, a matter of public record.
One thing he didnt realize was that you were running a procharged motor. Now it seems to me that the 28' Check is a true 28' hull and the 27 Baja has the swim platform added into that figure. Am I correct in that assumption? So now we have a NA motor in a larger boat that keeps up to yours on bad day for him and you tell him to get GPS?

Like I said, I AM a Checkmate guy and I had to say something.. Dont mean to start anything... You will definitly have the edge this summer, but then blower motors and NA motors aren't really apples to apples..

Dick
Dick, hearing your side i think there was a misunderstanding, during our brief conversation at the ramp i told him i had ran 85.1 earlier that day with a 30 pitch lab and as close as we were when racing that i would have beat him with it on. He said something to the effect that he ran 91 mph on his speedo and i think i said he should get a gps because when we were racing we only ran 84 mph to which he really didn't answer to.His boat is slightly bigger than mine and for having a N/A motor is very impressive.I got the impression that he was trying to say he was running 91 while we were racing when i know we were running pretty even at 84 which is were my gps remark comes from. I like the construction of the checkmate convincors and wouldn't even begin to try to compare the mediocre factory workmanship of a baja to one either.I look fwd to meeting you one day and hearing any insight you may be able to give on high performance work and building drives as you seem very intelligent,Smitty

Great numbers on your engine. Any plans to be at Hardy this weekend? Love to see you pushing 100.

Smitty,
I know how things can get confused after a long day of boating.. thanks for the reply.. I wouldnt say I am all that intelligent.. just been there, done some of the stuff.. and keep trying.
Would love to meet up.. hoping to make Hardy more this summer, but first need to get mine running.. Drives have taken front seat, but making some progress on my motor..
Dick

Ive ran into a few minor problems i'm still resolving, the biggest one is I have to order different headers because motor now has reversion at idle from slightly bigger cam and better exhaust flow. I just ordered stainless marine hi-torque 3's and can't even order the tail pipes until i can mock them up in the boat so it won't see the water now until end of june or beginnig of july,Smitty
