Question Chirping sound from 496?

Just curious if anyone else has this or knows what it is. Must not be too serious, its been doing it as long as I can remember. Sounds like loud fast cricket chirping, Belt squeal?
I open the hatch when I start it, Its not loud enough to hear when the hatch is closed. Thanks, JC

I have not heard the noise. I do hear a whistle sound at around 2800 RPMs though. BTW, How fast is your Fountain with the 496HO?

Yep. I get it out of one of my motors. Sounds almost a like a pulley or a tensioner. Only at idle though, and I can hear it through the hatch until I give it a little throttle for the no-wake.

The other 496HO noise I get is the swoosh suction sound when going from fast idle to standing idle.

ok here is what I found from my chirping engine..... lower flywheel housing cover plate, (sheet metal), they are held there with 1/4 in bolts that come loose and fall into the bilge and the plate is rubing against the flywheel, I think the problem is they use a cork gasket on these and the bolts lose Tq. over time and fall out

Interesting. I'll have to closely inspect mine....Don't like the thought of things just falling off motors no matter how insignificant they may be.

Had a chirp on one of my engines. Squirted some wd40 on the belt tensioner bearing to confirm it was the problem. Chirp went away for abourt 30 seconds. Replaced tensioner.
