Those front/rear sealing rails have nothing to do with vacuum. They just seal the lifter valley. Vacuum leaks typically just affect driveability. You'll get lousey part throttle response. WOT will be just fine. For what it's worth...

Wette Vette and Artic..
I picked up a can of the right stuff today.. Had to take out a second morgage, but hey.. it is for the boat.. who cares!! I have the same problem.. I scrimped on the Ultra Black when the manifold went on.. now it leaks good.. I will clean it and use the right stuff and be a step ahead..
The can says to leave a bit hanging.. to make it's own plug.. does it? And how long will the can last? Carquest almost hit me a full $20 bill.. Dont want it to just dry up.

I normally put slightly more than I need on the ends when insatlling the intake. Be sure to put it on both sides of the gasket ends on the corners. I also lightly coat both sides of the gasket around the water ports with the silicone. When the manifold is drawn down by the bolts there will be some oozing out the front and rear. I clean it up as I go to make it look pretty, but that can be kinda risky. That stuff skins over pretty quickly which can pull too much out when trying to make it look pretty. I keep a can of lacquer thinner handy and dip my finger in it while cleaning the excess. The lacquer thinner will re-emulsify the skin and make it clean up easier. When in doubt let it ooze and cut it with a knofe when it dries. The can doesn't last too long either. There must be a lot of compressed air in that thing!

Mr. G & Acrtic,
We are heading to Hardy the weekend after the 4th. I know that is SOTW but we are going anyway. We are arriving Thurs evening and plan on doing some prop testing Friday while things are quiet. If you aren't going to SOTW look us up.
