Guys,
I checked the filter at the carb...there was a little gunk but not much...cleaned it out and put it back together. I am very close to having a mechanic ride with me and attempting to diagnose the problem. I may look into what u150 mentioned. Mine pick-up coils are pretty rusty and I did try to clean then with a bit of brake fluid as I was doing the tune-up. However, I did get probably 2 good hours out of it before this issue started up. Sorry for long post, just frustrated at this point.
Thanks,
Dobb

I had a similar problem on a small block a long time ago. The distributor was worn, and the shaft was bouncing around on the cam. Replaced the distributor and it fixed the problem. Of course, this had nothing to do with engine temperature....

Guys,
After hours of thinking, restless nights, and a few hours of work I have resolved the issue. I actually had a mechanic put the pick-up sensor in as I had had enough. It was the pick-up sensor in the distributor. It seems as though my tune-up is now paying off...I have gained about 2MPH and 2-3000 rpms. Thanks again guys...
