An out-drive IMO is just a gearbox. If it is properly sealed then any good gear oil, or great gear oil like the HD Shockproof will work very well. If your drive is leaking the best "marine" oil in the world isn't going to avoid problems down the road.

A pressure and vacuum test annually + good gear oil is the best bet

Well I heard pressure and vaccuum testing can actually stress seals...only do it if you think you have a leak they tell me..

Amsoil Gear Lube in it's new formulation was out most of last season and it performed very well. Teagues gave it very high ratings when used in thier Platinum drives. It is a great product and the one I would personally go with. It's made for offshore applications and it will extend your drive's life.

As far as out-drive lubes go there is more specific chemistry needed I feel for an outdrive vs. an axle. That plus testing. Auto lubes are not tested with water contamination or foaming as drives are much more punishing and subject to different environments and temperatures. The seals are also different.

The Mobil1 V-twin has lots of anti-corrosion agents and a load of ZDDP. It should be labeled "marine" as well as it is perfect for the application.

I was asked why additives such and Zinc..Phosphorous..Calcium..Antimony..Molybdenum etc are so important...

Well these agents are known as "Boundary Lubricants"...they say a picture is worth a thousand words...any questions?? :D
