Mercury transom mount water pickup ????'s
My new( to me) ride has
Mercury transom mounted water
pickups.
These things look like the could produce
some serious drag.
Anybody here "massaged",or trimmed these
things down ?
If so, how much did you take off ?

These type you are talking about, are they black and aluminum and mount with 3 bolts? If so, yes, I have modified some but usually don't. I wouldn't imagine that you will notice a performance gain unless they interfere with the incoming water to the props or your water pressure is to high. In most cases I just leave them alone. Just remember if you do modify them, they are cast aluminum, once you cut, theres no gluing back on without a lot of BS.

These are whats on it:
http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show_...+PICK%2DUP+KIT
The bottom third has no inlets on it,
I was thinking of getting rid of at least that
portion ( angling it back upward)
Like anyone,
I'm searching for that illusive m.p.h.,
and this seemed to be somewhere that
you may gain something.
