Mufflers for 496HO's?
#1
I would like a recommendation on which mufflers wound work the best for me. I have 496 HO's with silent choice and I am guessing from other threads I have read that I am in the upper 90's dB range. I believe I need to be under 90dB to be legal. So - it would be ideal for me to be at 89-1/2dB. I don't want to lose any performance (who does), but I am sure I don't need the amount of muffling that some of you big power guys do.
I don't feel that I need "the best" muffler because I don't have an extreme noise situation and I still want as much noise as possible.
Thanks for the help,
Bill

I didn't really think my 496HO was that loud? I don't have mufflers and never been hassled. Then again, in my locale I don't recall ever hearing of people being tested.

before I put straight-thru's on my 496 it was very quiet with the stock Corsa exhaust tips. It still sounded throaty and would put you under the legal limit.
heres a video of what it sounded like stock. This is in a covered area and it is a cold startup so it echo's and sounds a bit louder than when it is out in the open air.

I put the Rex Marine muffs on my twin HO's. Brought it down from 96 (both) to 87 (both) with only about 150rpm loss. Each motor is at about 84 db. Had the props cleaned up and tweaked for that 150rpm and all is well!.

Thanks for the replies.
I am not a big fan of the corsa system - don't know why.
I was hoping for something quick, easy, and cheap, but for my situation that will probably not happen. I would like clamp on so I could remove them when I don't need them, but I don't think my tips are long enough (just enough for the salisbury flappers) so I will probably go for something permanent. I may learn to like it
. From searching around here, I guess I need to look into GGB transom mount.
Thanks again,
Bill
