I noticed the the rear motor mount from engine to transom, has a long bolt thru, with a alum. nut? mine seem to be loose, striped... i ready replaced. my local mercury dealer had them in stock. common problem? anyone know why they use soft alum nuts?

They use aluminum for a couple of reasons. Aluminum is what the inners transom plate that it sits in is made of so it won't cuase corrosion, the bolt is treated with something (?) to prevent corrosion as well. The other reason is becuase it sits in a notch in the aluminum transom plate and the idea is if you overtighten it, it will round or strip before it breaks the inner transom plate.
