My Mando style alternator died. It`s a 1998 with serpentine belt. I`d like to use a one-wire style GM alternator.
QUESTIONS:
Can I use automotive style alt? If not, how can I convert it to be marine safe? I don`t need USCG approved decals, I boat on lakes and they never check your equipment.
Will a regular GM alt fit into my bracket?
Will a GM alt with serpentine belt work with my belt? Will it line-up?

Don't know all your answers. My old Alt. died & when I took it in to be rebuilt I was told I could go the GM 1 wire cheaper. I tried it & it works. You do need to get the marine version. It is no big deal. It did fit my bracket. Don't know about serpentine belt tho.

I belive the pulleys are interchangable , so you can use old one.

Coast Guard may not check your equipment but the insurance company may if there is ever a claim. It is not a big deal to marinize and the marine versions should be readily available. They have screens or are sealed to prevent sparks from igniting fuel vapors that collect in the bilge.

I use the one wire alternator and have covered and secured the additional wires out of the way.

Doesn`t the Mando alternator use a keyway on the pulley? I know that the GM alternator does not.
Pulleys still interchange?

They are all a standard Morse Taper, some have use a woodruf key as well though. You don't actually have to have the key in there for it to hold.

That`s exactly what I was just told by an alternator manufacturer in Dallas.
I just ordered a Delco style 135 amp , one-wire, MARINE alternator. It is powder-coated black, comes with either a v-belt pulley or a 6-groove serpentine pulley, has a 2 year warranty and was $109.99. I thought that was a good deal.
It should arrive tomorrow.

great deal higher we carry the marine single wire but not coated and 109 is close to my cost!!!!!
