Default Speedmaster vs. TRS

What is the differnce between the two drives. Do they fit the same gimbal housing? I believe I have a Speedmaster gimbal that was sent to me as a TRS gimbal. Which would be better? I was trying to match the TRS that I already have. The part number on the inside transom plate is 46986.

Sorry about the questions. Just needing a few quick answers.

Don't have the books in front of me, but if memory serves, everything in that era was the same till you got to the lower gearcase assmb. so you should be O.K. --- Jer

A speedmaster II outdrive uses a TRS upper and gimble. It is just the lower unit that is different. Why do you think you have a speedmaster gimble, do they not look the same?

Steve,
Is the Gimble in question the one that I sold you last spring, if so it is a TRS. Like Pat said a # 2 speedmaster uses the same upper as a TRS.If you need help figuring things out you can pm me your # again and I will give you a call.

No, I was trying to match that one. I purchased a gimble assembly of a supposed 88 trs boat. but when it arrived it is different. the inner plate looks like the SSM by looking up the part number and i still have not looked up the part number for any of the outside parts. I dont have much money in it and will probably try and trade it for parts for my second drive.

I am just trying to match the one I purchased from you to install twins. I am just getting to start on the project. it has all been in storage for a while.

Like stated above, only a SSM II will be the same. All other SSMs will be completely different.

Looks like I have a Speedmaster III or above gimbal assembly if anyone is interested in trading for a new style TRS gimbal assembly...

Her is a pic of the gimbal in question. From what I have searched on the internet it is a speedmaster gimbal. Just needs to be cleaned up. Th outer assembly has about 3 coats of paint. The inner has some white paint splatters.

I have 2 set of good used TRS Gimbals inner and outers with trim rams if you need them.

The picture above is a number 3 setup
