Usually uesd only in Merc's hp (blue) engines. But if you give us the eng.ser.#, we could probably tell you for sure. --- Jer

The serial number is om900421 and it is a blue motor. We are installing the R-tech supercharging system and they highly recommend that it have inconel valves. Thanks for your help.

Ive always been told if its magnetic at one end and not magnetic at the other, its probably inconel. Thats been true for me so far on Manleys inconel.

If it has aluminum heads then it should have Inconel.

The aluminum heads used the 525's are made by Edelbrock for Mercury. They come with Ferea (sp) valves in them. This part of the reason the motors went from 500's to 525's. The aluminum makes a little more power than the cast heads do.

Sorry Smitty,
I misread your post. Thought you were saying that aluminum heads in general should have inconel
Agreed, the 525 Edelbrocks come with inconel (if Merc doesn't do a cost reduction here

So are we saying that they are inconel for sure or is there still a margin of uncertainty?

My engine builder says that there in no real way to know FOR SURE if the valves in a head are Inconel or not unless you take them new out of Manley's package and install them yourself. However, if you call Merc's racing dept. with that ser.#, they will tell you what was installed from the factory. --- Jer
