It had the steel SR torquers heads on it before .I did some port work to them and it made 492hp with the SR's.

Consider either of these motors a template and we can sub any parts you desire like a Callies Crank or Manley rods etc.
The Budget 383 is my lowest priced motor and the Dart 434 my highest priced small block. we have many possibilities between the two.
Thanks

I even wore out a set of Crower roller tappets in the 3rd motor. Sent then back to Crower and they asked how many passes were on them I told them 13000 miles
. they couldn't believe it and gave me a NEW set
I am still running them now
Also the air cleaner made 9 hp on the dyno
Again my combo wouldn't work in a boat, but I don't see why you couldn't build a 400-408 ci with stock bottom end a fair set of heads, mild cam 9.5 cr and still make 475-500 hp .
Sorry got long winded

Strip.......dont worry about being long winded!!!!.......its cool to hear about different actual combos guys are running and the stories behind how they arrived at them
There is a pair of 174 blown roller 355s around here that came out of a boat with alot of pretty good stuff in them (bowtie blocks, ported Dart tourqers, Barry Grant 780 carbs, Gill dry exhaust, 12 quart offshore oil pans.....but have Gm steel cranks and pink rods.) they'd need to be gone through but I could get them for a great price.....sposed' to make 470/500hp.......they'd be nice in the back of the Fountain.......trying to get the cam specs from the guy and I'll post the combo on here and see what you guys think.......he said they run 12lbs boost and 7.5:1 blower pistons......Airpacker has seen them run and said they are as nasty a sounding smallblocks as he's ever heard.......I should phone the guy again!.............doug

Mike at Active engines (the engine builder for the Dream Car Garage tv show) was telling me he built a nice 406 for a boat 3 yrs ago and got it back to look it over.....the first one hes got back with any real everyday type hours on it......said the guy runs it pretty hard.......said the deck had all kinds of little cracks in it......still ran fine but.........

Dart does Iron Eagles and Pro aluminum heads.
These do sound like nice motors. There's no point (to me) in putting on a blower with 3 lbs of boost, you can get the same power increase elsewhere. If your going to blow em, it has to be significant boost to justify the expense.
I like big inch small blocks, much more then 350s in boats.
If you are building a 400-406, just step the crank up to 3.875 for a 415 -421 ci
I like big inch, Big blocks more. Not much more $$ to build if you're going custom. A 540 makes 600-660 hp much easier then a 434, but I digress...
