Stinger, sorry to hear of all your troubles. Pull a head off and see what the bores are like. If there is any ridge at all at the top of the bore, they weren't rebuilt.

Re: Game over???
Had a 340" Dodge drag engine toss a rod with only 10 minutes running time.
Rod bolts broke causing a rod cap to jam between the block and another rod, breaking it, then punching holes in the block and in a brand new pan.
The rod bolts were supposed to be new. I later found that my "partner" spent the money on booze insted.

With all the problems you have had, I'm going to blame the builder!! You have yet to disclose his name. Friends mean well but when they screw up to this degree your the one getting hurt.
If your budget permits, I would buy brand new long blocks, have a reputable marine engine builder do the assembly, and run them on a dyno. I think there is maybe a handfull of trustworthy builders out there. If you go this route post your location and ask who can do this work for you. If I could get back all the money I spent on my last engines, I could have bought a brand new boat!!!
