Re: Winter Project
Great numbers! What did you end up doing?
|
Re: Winter Project
Roccard Marine used my stock lower end, balanced and blue printed w/ APR rod bolts. Its a standard bore 502 with Edelbrock aluminum heads.9.8 to 1 compression.Full roller valve train and an 850 demon carb.Nothing fancy but they seem to know how to pull some great numbers out of their engines.I really didn't think that with a mild combination like this it would be any where near 640 horse. But Mike proved me wrong.I was only shooting for about 525, but I'll take it.I'll see tomorrow how the second engine make out.
Thanks |

Here are the results of the second engine from our dyno session today. Not bad with them within about 3.4 horse of each other at 5800 rpms and 7 ftlbs torque at 4700 to 4800 rpms.Have to give two thumbs up to Roccard Marine for a great job with the complete project from start to finish.
Thanks to all the guys at Roccard Marine,Mike,Bob,Lou,and all the other guys I didn't get to meet personally. :evilb: :evilb: :evilb: :evilb: |

Re: Winter Project
Unbelievable Anthony. I cant believe all the work you have done so far. Im not an engine guy at all, but those #'s seem out of whack for the work done. that is over 200 hp difference !! If those numbers are true, youd better upgrade those drives. Bravos will not last with that kind of Hp. I dont care how much you baby them, It will only be a matter of time before they let go, Like the day you go on vacation

Bob Those numbers are true.We upgraded the valve train to a full roller with roller rockers and all. That alone is worth 30-40 horse and plus a much larger cam.I also went with Edelbrock aluminum heads and they claim 75-100 horse over stock besides the 40lbs per head weight savings.Comp. ratio was raised to 9.8 and full engine was balanced and blue printed.I am in the process of ordering HP transoms and XR drives.I hope this will work out to be a reliable and fast combo.I may never get my money out of it but I think if people see a new drive train it may raise the value when it comes time to sell. |

Re: Winter Project
Nice job! Did you have any problem removing the stuff off the transom w/o damaging the gel? Sealing those holes with resin?

What holes are you talking about? The only hard part was removing the trim tabs. They were on with 5200,what fun.I used four or five spackel knifes and mineral spirits.I hammered little by little the knifes between the tab and hull and then would soak with spirits into the gap.Little by little the 5200 would let go until they came off.No damage what so ever. |
Re: Winter Project
I am going through the same thing right now with my 89 Fever. I have just installed new T/As and since mine did not have hyd steering, I am working on that. I am still way ahead of my engine builder. So far ahead that I am thinking of removing the T/As and changing the cutout to raise my drives.
Something to think about if your x-dim is like most older Fountains (16.5 to 16.75). You may want to consider shorties or raising the cutouts and engines. There have been some good discussions on this in the Fountain forum. I talked to Marty @ Fountain and we discussed this at length and decided that 18 to 18.5" would probably be good on the older non steps as well. |
Re: Winter Project
I have so much time already into this project I just want to see it float again.I just ordered new HP transoms and XR drives.I am going to see how this set up runs and then I may go for some shorties.Post some pics when you get a chance.I love to see other peoples projects.
Thanks Nordic95 |

Progress continues in the bilge compartment today. As you can see I installed new Lovett bilge pumps and hoses, new bilge blower motors and hoses also redid all wire harnesses and anodized battery trays.I should have my HP transoms next week and the motors are ready to drop in.I hope to see water in a week or two.The pressure is on so I can make the Lake George spring poker run. Before I drop the motors in I need to make a decision whether to install my silent choice again or mufflers. What are the majority of you guys out there doing?I like the silent choice but I know it is illegal on some of the lakes I boat on.Please give me some input and advice so I can make up my mind. Thanks Nordic95 |
Re: Winter Project
I wouldn't have one w/o silent choice myself. I use mine all the time as soon as I come off plain. It is illegal here too, but never an issue. If I get questioned about it, I'll just leave it open and disable the switch, or have a hidden switch. It is my understanding, but don't know for sure, that it can't be switchable from the helm. We have no db limit, just no silent choice. Course mufflers would clean up the bilge.
Looking good. |

HOLY EMPTY BANK ACCOUNT BAT MAN !!!!!
Look at what the easter bunny finally dropped off at my shop today after a three month wait. I think I might actually have the parts now to put my engines in this week.I had Billet Marine install their top cap with the built in water shower and the Imco prop shaft with the anodized bearing carrier. Also HP transoms to attach the drives to the resin bucket. With the three day weekend coming up I might have a chance at finally hearing this thing run,man I can't wait.More pics to follow this weekend. |

Re: Winter Project
Wow what an ambitious project to undertake, but you have done a great job and the boat is looking real nice. Did you get a chance to put it in the water yet? If so how did she run?
How long have you been working on this project? |
