Default Smoked altenator

Can you smoke an alternator on a dyno? Had my engine dyno and for some reason when they started the engine the alternator started smoking. They unhooked all the wires from it and then ran it like that. Now my alternator is bad.The alternator was fine before and now isn't. What are the chances this happened on the dyno.

if you ground the orange wire it will blow the breaker at the starter before damaging the alternator -your ignition relay will also need resetting before that would happen-sounds to me like it was just coinsidence-or maybe you need to buy an alternator for a 1200hp motor-now thats what I call hp-only kiddin

I wish I knew more about this. I'll probable have to eat the price of a new alternator. I figured if it was fine before and when they started the engine the alternator started smoking. You would think HOLY CHIT we screwed something up. Then after that if the unit was bad, have enough balls to say hey I screwed up let me take care of it. But that never happens.
