496 HO Riser
I upgraded from a 454 to a 496HO in my 92 Checkmate. The new thru-transom exahust was slightly different and now because of the more severe downward angle of the tailpipes the inside contacts the lip that goes around the exahust outlet at the very top edge. This is creating a water shadow and an intense dime sized hot-spot in one small spot on the stainless tailpipe. The edge of the connecting hose even melted and the tailpipe discolored. My question is, does anyone know any reason why I couldn't grind off a small portion of this lip on the riser output and allow the water to pass the top edge?

Re: 496 HO Riser
This happened to me last summer when I upgraded from my old 454. Even a small difference in angle created a hot spot which burned a hole on top of the exhaust hose.
I took a hammer and straightened the bell out a bit on the top and the problem disappeared.
