Default Setting Timing on 500EFI

Please confirm that the following steps are correct for setting the timing on a 500EFI.

Hook up timing light to #1 cylinder.

Hook up scan tool and put engine into service mode.
(or put a paper clip as a jumper between "A" & "B")

Run RPM's up to 1500 to 1800 RPM then check to see if base timing is at 8 degrees.

If anyone can confirm that these steps are correct I would appreciate it.

Thanks
Dock
