What should the cost be for a new HP500 oil cooler?? Factory part I guess.

I'm going to have my system pressure tested, hopefully tomorrow to see if there's a headgasket issue, I am now having suspicions. How much is a head gasket for this engine? I have a friend who's a very experienced auto mech, is there anything special that would prevent or cause him problems versus a marine mech? And if so, how much $ am I looking at for this?

Problem solved!! Oil cooler was loaded with oil. Should I change the other side as a precaution?? or not necessary??

Did you pressure test the oil cooler? As far as the other if its not broke dont fix it. If it bothers you, change it.

Here's my update: Pressure tested cooling system.....passed. Chemical block test......passed, leakdown test deemed not necessary. I drained the tank and tried to clean it out (not very easy) and refilled. A full blown flushing is in the near future. Changed spark plugs (they were nasty) and fuel/water seperator and that seemed to wake the engine back up. Exhaust notes sounded crisp and sharp while idling. Did oil change as well (it was time) Went to pull prop off outdrive to drain and found a bunch of fishing line wrapped up in there Going to test this afternoon, but I have a feeling that the thing is going to run a lot better and smoother............damn bassboats
