Like above not to many things kill coils, resistance from wires, to wide a gap on the plugs and over voltage. IV runs at full 12 volts if you use a resister coil it will die pretty quick, make sure the coil is for full 12 volts no resister needed. A resister coil running on 12 volts gets super hot, usualy shows a little oil leakage they get slimmy on top.

Also, remember, leaving the ignition coil powered when not in use (ie: key left on run or coil hooked up to full time power) will cook it pretty fast. It should only be powered when engine is to be run.
Also, some Accell coils still need their noted/included ballast resistor even when run on 12V systems.
I would bring a T-Bolt Merc coil with you in case you find no reason for this happening. After expending all efforts, Put it in and see what happens.
BTW: I've been using MSD HVC coils on T-Bolts with no problems and no extra resistors needed. HVC stands for High Vibration Coil and uses epoxy instead of oil. Can be mounted anywhich way. Oil filled, as Wobble stated, should be mounted vertically.
