My Baja came with a porta-potty and the wife wants a toilet. I was going to set it up so that it draws fresh water from the water tank, but when I was at West marine I saw a diagram that showed it set up to pull in lake water to flush. My question is can I draw the water from the fresh tank or not. I will put a check valve in the line so no bad stuff can get into the fresh tank.

Anybody done this or how is your boat set up????

You can draw water from the fresh water tank for the toilet. My boat is set up that way from the factory and I think a lot of boats are setup this way. I don't know whether there is any check valve or not in the system. If the fresh water tank and other fresh water outlets are above the toilet, then you probably wouldn't need to worry about a check valve, but I don't know for sure. I've never spent time figuring that part out. I did have to figure out how to fix the vacuflush though.

Using direct draw from the lake seems like a good idea at first, but, I can see a couple of negatives to doing it. The first is that if boating in salt water, then there could be possible issues with salt. The second is the higher likely hood of sucking in bacteria or algae that could decide it likes to grow in the toilet bowl.

They also make a pump out porta potti. We have installed them in the Proline fishboats we sell. Just in case you dont have a freshwater system or a holding tank. It works well for them.
