Default how big of a heat exchanger for o BBC

I want to fresh water cool my motors and would like to know
how big of a exchanger to get[BTU,s/ Number of passes]

I put fw cooling on my old 500 hp that have been modified with aluminum heads and cams to produce 600 hp. Only two trips so far but my coolers are holding the temps down acceptably. I got my coolers from SeaKamp Engineering. They are 5" diameter, 25" long with 4 passes on the tube side (raw water in the tubes). Try searching on the net for marine closed cooling.

Another company was Orca that speced out a similar heat exchanger size but was more expensive.

Do not buy the 454 kits sold from the marine supply houses. The exchangers are too small.

Call Innovation Marine in Florida. They built my 800hp engines with closed cooling. The temp stays at 145deg. all day long.

Call Sen-Dur or call Sea Kamp in Washington State. They both make these coolers for a living and they can give you the correct sizing and configuration and such.
