Default starter problems-need help pls

boat is a 1990 cig bullet with mercruiser 502s engine number 0f077715(92-93).

Tried to start (starbord) and only heard the starter spin- would not engage as if the silenoid was not engaging the starter gear to the ring gear. Was starting earlier but would drag as if a ground problem but now no click, just a spin of the starter.

Are there 2 silenoids per engine one on the starter and one as a slave?

Advise please- were to start diagnois and suggestions?

Thank you,

Thanks Joe,

Are automotive starters compatable with marine starters ?
Or are they sealed to reduce spark?

Buy a marine starter.

Cheap place with NEW marine starters I've had good luck with is www.dbelectrical.com

Disclaimer: otherpeople's experiences may be different.

Note: always get new bolts with a new starter. Old bolts in a marine engine have a tendency to break off in block. Doh.

YOUR WELCOME

Do not buy automotive starter for it, they are not spark arrested and could cause the boat to blow up!!!!!!!

if you have a reputable re builder in your area it should cost you 100-150 for a marine rebuilt !!!!
