supercharging 500 hp's
I have just purchased a 95 powerquest 34 viper with 500 hp's and would like some feed back on a good low cost whipple style supercharger set up for the motors, I am looking for a moderate hp increase that will get the boat up into the mid to high 80 mph range, the boat runs 78 mph now. I was considering the weiand blowers or the whipple set up, but i am not sure since the whipples are $6500 and the weiands are $2500, what is the big difference ? does anybody have experience with either of the 2 set ups ?

DON'T supercharge it.
You can make a reliable 600-650HP by bumping them out to 540s, cam, head, header, and carb tweaking. If you go the SC route, you will be a 'wrencher' and not a 'boater'; especially with motors/drives of that age.
There are plenty of threads on here explaining the ways to do such.

I just bought an 02 boat with 500's and Prochargers. This winter the Prochargers are coming off and we'll be building 540's. If your interested I'll sell both sets of 8 PSI intercooled Prochargers for $4-5K. (available after teardown sometime in October/November)
