Default Diacom Guru needed Dave_n?????

I was HAULIN' ACE today and I went into guardian mode, solid buzzer.

Here's my history file.....I think I went into guardian mode for low sea pump pressure but not sure. It looks like the cam, crank and map sensor all tripped at 109.77 hrs.

I came of plane and everything seemed OK, guages OK, ran back to the marina OK. I'm thinking I caught some grass or garbage on my water pickups.

Dave,
I don't think it was due to low Sea Pump Pressure, and it is hard to say exactly what happened, but it looks like the Overspeed fault is the one that caused you to go to Guardian mode. Both occured at 110.93 engine hours.

What exactly happened? Did the engine completely shut down, or did it just slow to a certain RPM?

The crank, cam and MAP faults all occured during start-up at 109.77 engine hours. It's not unusual for a 496 to have stored crank and cam faults but still run normally.

The stored MAP fault shows a frequency count of 66. This isn't normal and something is going on there, but it doesn't look like that factors in with your Gaurdian Mode incident at 110.93 engine hours. You may want to throw a new MAP sensor in there.

I would suggest clearing all faults and the freezframe memory and if it happens again, hook up the computer before shutting down.

Dave

Thanks Dave. The motor did not shut down completely. I was running at about 4500 RPMs and I had a sudden loss of power and the motor sounded REAL bad. I came off plane, it came back to an idle and seemed fine. My guages looked fine too. I didn't want to shut it off, so I let it idle for a few minutes and then headed back to the marina. I didn't take it above 4000 rpms on the way back, but everything seemed normal. I got home, flushed the motor and ran the diags.

Dave,
The active faults you show are normal. You may have one in fault history that shows up. The Cam, Crank, and Map faults appear to be during engine start. This is not uncommon. The one thing that stands out to me is the sea pump pressure in the Guardian FF is only 8.38 @ 4821 RPM with 5% Available Power. I do not recall the range, but I think it should be closer to 15.

Thanks IH. Looking at some of my other recordings, at 4800 RPMs, I'm showing 22.52 psi Sea Pump Pressure.

As soon as I came off plane everything seemed fine. This time of year there are a lot of clumps of sea weed and grass floating in the water. I'm thinking I caught omething on the outdrive that wouldn't come off. I havn't ran the boat since then. I hope to run it this weekend.

The math adds up too, it occurred approx. 25 minutes before I ran the diags. It took me about 15 minutes to get back to the marina, then I flushed it for 5 or 10 minutes.

Well, I ran the boat pretty hard yesterday and NO problems. I scanned the motor when I got home and no codes where present except for the usual ones.

I'm sticking with my assumption that I caught some trash on the water pickups. That would of lowered my sea pump pressure and could of caused the overspeed by cavitating the prop.

The new technology is great. If it was the older style motors I probably would of toasted my impellor and possibly the whole motor.

What about the MAP fault(s)? Did it come back?

Not this time. I put about 3 hours on it yesterday. The first thing I did before firing her up was give the map sensor connector a push to make sure it was snug.
