if it sits in the water, put something on it to keep the crap off. I use Scatt, it sprays right on and it really helps to keep it clean, at least in the fresh water where i boat. it keeps the yellow stain off really well, now i just have to get in the water and brush the scumline off once a week or so.
I'm sold.

Do you seriously think it slows down the boat though??

Works very well. Nasty chit to use, stay up wind of the fumes. I put it in a 1 gallon garden type sprayer. Adjust the nozzel to a stream. That way you can shoot the stuff all over the bottom. Disolves/removes stains almost instantly so have the hose/water ready for a quick and thorough rinse.

It plays hell on aluminum and or bare metal but will not hurt the gel. Just be sure and cover/protect aluminum.
Thanks for the reply, Im going to check that out and save myself some $$$

Boat was in the water about 6 weeks this summer before I pulled it to clean it. Didn't look all that bad. Scummy but not built up. Cleaned it. Picked up almost 3mph!!!

I've seen enough growth on the bottom of a boat and outdrive to where it won't even get on plane.....

We're only talking about a green stain, can I assume we're talking about fresh water here?

It greatly affect fuel economy. What you save this year for not cleaning it , you pay in fuel and performance next year.

My boat usually run 3-5 mph slower in the autumn due to the drag the green creates.

I buy muriatic acid all the time for work. I found the price at Ace Hardware was about half of what they wanted at Lowes. It won't hurt aluminum much, if at all, but it will tarnish the hell out of stainless steel, or brass.
