Been there with plug shavings like this on my xr twice in the last three years. Time for a rebuild or replacement. Was my prop shaft pinion gear both times. I wouldn't run it anymore. Mine actually locked up each time shortly after a lube change with filings like that on the lower plug. My experience now says you might be on to something to sell it and get a new one with a warranty. I see your real decision as to whether to sell as is for cheap or rebuild and sell it for full value.
