Can you winterize a motor without running it by just draining the block & Manifolds, pulling the thermostat and pouring Anti-freeze where the T-Stat goes until the block is full?

Some do - I don't. I made a super cheap tool to handle this much easier.After draining water, hook this up, fill with antifreeze and start it. I'd suggest 5-6 gallons.

you just have to be sure you get all the water out of the small pockets that may not drain and may not get anti-freeze.....like the oil/power steering cooler etc.....i just did this very same thing with my dads boat....he took the carb off to have it repaired...now it looks like it wont be back for a while so to be safe i winterized the boat as best i could....

Problem is I need to send out my started that is shot and therefore can't start the motor but would like to get the motor winterized. I would rather run it but might not get the start back in time and just want to get the boat put away??? Does anyone do it this way?

I prefer the starting method, but I have done both just make sure you find all the drains. I usually drop the hoses off the oil cooler, the recirculating pump, exhaust and the seawater pump. I did the family OMC for years and never even new about the antifreeze trick!

Drain the block/lines etc. Fill with antifreeze and you are good to go. If you are concerned, that you didn't get all the water out (which is probably true), use -100 and cut it by 1/3, and use that to fill the block. Unlike -50, the -100 is made to be mixed with water.

Use the 4 hoses from the Stat housing to fill. Large hose fills the block, 2 smaller hoses fill the exhaust manifolds, and the 4th hose fills the intake line. I always drain the lines at the impeller housing to make sure it doesn't have any water.

The only tool you need to do this is a 5/16" nut driver for the hose clamps. Can't be much easier
