I've read that torque converters expand with excessive heat and cause clearance problems in this area. Could there be more heat and "twist" on the crankshaft near the rear?

Re: crankshaft .0025 from front to rear ?
Bill after some more checking, and remeasuring I decided to regrind the crankshaft, cheap insurance.
p.s. the difference in my shop when the heater was blowing on the engine stand and when it was colder overnight was .0002-.0003"

talked to machine shop today, same explanation as you Bill. rear is usually under .001-.002. larger bearing surface to support crank/oil for thrust surfaces. he did say he would not
run clearances greater than .035 in a bbc. I bought a set of .001 over bearings and split with std. and got my .025"
Thanks again Bill

Remember thicker bearing is supose to go in the upper whem using diff sizes.
So you got it to .0025 and still ground the crank?

Yes i still ground the crank. there was almost .0008 difference
between journal 1 and 4. Machine shop said it makes no difference where thicker bearing is placed, what is your logic?
thanks Cort

Think about it .Wouldnt you want the thicker bearing on the top ,thrust side ? Its in the Clevite tech bulletin.King also.I also double cked and called a tech at ACL.
Like H2Xmark said ,and making it weaker being smaller. You also have less to choose from in bearing on a 10 under crank.
best of luck
Rob
