Flame Arrestor Size/ secondary rods

What size should the flame arrestor be on a stock 454/330? The arrestors on my engines appear to be undersized- I haven't measured but they look to be about 6". It appears an upgrade is in order.
Also WOT on my boat is 4300. I rarely have an opportunity to run at this speed long enough to optimize the trim. (The wife thinks any speed over 30 will instantaneously cause the kids to be ejected from the boat at which point a shark will devour them- boat is a formula 330ss. I've tried to argue I need to go faster to out run the leopard rays that might jump in the boat (I live in Ft. Lauderdale) but logic never wins)
Two years ago when I repowered WOT was only 4100 with a bravo 3 26" propset. Never thought much of it in view of limited opportunity to trim it out. I changed props down to 24 and only gained 150 rpms. In starting this years spring maintenance, I thought I would start looking at the quadrajet carbs. In checking the secondaries, I discovered each carb has different rods. One has CNs, the other is unmarked but looks like a pair of pencils hanging in there, about double the diameter at the tip of the CN rods. I swapped these fat rods out with a pair of CH's left from tuning my car. I haven' run it yet, but expect this will make a difference in the rpms of both engines (I suspect the richer jetted one is being held back by the other).
The carbs run great other than WOT RPM, no sign that the primary jetting is off. Overall performance is great. Idles smooth, no hesitation. Jumps on plane instantanously. The question- what is the recommended starting point for the secondary rods for a 330?
Am I likely to gain any meaningful power increases in a 12000 lb boat by better tuning the secondaries?
Thoughts appreciated.
