Oso used to have an outboard section. Never any activity in it. I'm sure some of you old timers remeber.
As far as outboards, I've always been a JohnnyRude man. If I were repowering my fishboat today, I'd strap an E-tec on it.

the three litre 225/ 250 are good engines. there have been some issues with the nylon ring gear on the crank going bad or a siezed oil pump, causing catostrophic engine failure. how ever most of those failures are due in part to neglectful maintanance of the oil system ergo contaminant in the oil tank or sludge etc,,,, .
what would you say is the life span in hours on a merc efi egg beater well well maintaned?
Thanks as I am also a BBC guy thinking of converting

well well maintained has alot to do but so does conditions operated. for example runing to the banks10 times a season for a total of six hours at cruise straight and then another 6 or 8 of trolloing.
alot of idleing for drifting.
skiing.
and so on. 1000 is not unheard of. we have a couple of fisherman with close to 800 hours on 3.0 litres.
450 -500 on verados.
as for the older 2.5's 500, 700 maybe
