Best Way To Clean Vinyl

We have an 05 Formula 382 FasTech and the white parts on the vinyl seats/ sunpad have light black dirt deep in the crevises. What is the best way to clean this to look like new? I figured a good cleaner and a soft brissel tooth brush? But what is the best vinyl cleaner?

Prostreeter 03-26-2007 03:16 PM

Soft scrub with bleech with a very soft bristle brush.Did my boat over the weekend and it looks great.

Debbie just Friday did the interior of her 22 Donzi. I'd been working on it, and try as I could, I'd still get greasy finger marks on the backs of the front seats (we took the rear seats out before I started). She used the magic erasers on them, and she couldn't believe how clean she to stuff. Mind you, these are the original 25 year old seats in it, and they look like new. She also did the top of the dash which always looked kind of dingy, and it looks like new. She sprayed it all down with 303 afterwards.

She warned me if I got greasy marks on her boat again, I'd be in for an ass whuppin. I told her to feel free to jump down in that bilge anytime. She thinks that was dirty, wait until I start the intake/carb swap.

Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. I use them all the time. The work great.

t500hps 03-26-2007 06:07 PM

2 years ago I cleaned some seats with bleach white (cut 50%with water) and a medium brush. Worked my AZZ off scrubbing everything. A couple days later I was told to try the Magic Erasers......you could see where I left off when I stopped 1/2 way through. Use small amounts of cleaner along with the Erasers, Spray 9 cut significantly or even Windex cleaners will help the Erasers clean even more quickly. I will use nothing else on my vinyl from now on!!!!!

I've had good luck with "Vinyl Shampoo". That's the name! Think I got it through boaters world! Then I top it off with mcguires vinyl conditioner in the blue spray bottle....

klaw 03-26-2007 06:19 PM

lava soap works great

US1 Fountain 03-26-2007 07:17 PM

The bad thing about the Magic Eraser is that you can't just try it. Once you try it in a spot, you have to do the rest of the interior. :)

I always follow up with 303.

ghittner 03-27-2007 12:52 AM

SOAK it with Simple green for 15-20 min or so. Then scrub with a soft bristle brush thoroughly and wipe off. Spray again, wipe again, it will look showroom and you won't have to worry about a caustic cleaner to boot! It works!

What is the 303? I have seen it mentioned a couple of times around here.

320es 03-27-2007 12:17 PM

vinyl protectant

JCat 38 03-27-2007 12:36 PM

I swear by Magic Erasers dipped in Quick n Brite, it does the best job. Stay away from anything that has bleach, it will crack your vinyl and so will amorall. We have switched over to 303, it may be more $$$, but it sure beats replacing all your vinyl.

Kinda like Armor All.

303 has UV protectant also. Buy It. You'll like it! :evilb:

Don't use this on viynyl.
Simple Green is caustic! Loaded with alkalides. Don't believe me, use it bare handed for about 10-15 minutes, it will burn your skin and peel off in about 4 days. take a batch of it and dump it on your grass(nothing will grow there again, nothing). It will eat the powder coating off anything, let a part soak in full strength for two weeks. Pull the part out = bare metal. Now think what it is going to do the thread that is stiched into your vinyl.

The 303 upholstery cleaner isn't worth chit. :(

The 303 protectant IS the chit!:D

kjm5125 03-27-2007 06:46 PM

I agree, Magic Eraser will get the job done. I've had good luck with the Target brand also, and it's less expensive! For tough dirt, use the eraser with a good vinyl cleaner.

98outlawse 03-28-2007 07:57 AM

try scrubbing bubbles, it has no bleach. it worked great on my boat.

Follow the link that By U Boy put up on page one of your thread. It will save you money and the vinyl will look like new again. Have fun!

You Wont Believe What Soft Scrub With Bleach And A Mr Clean Magic Eraser Will Do Excellent Results With Little Effort Make Sure You Dress The Stitching With Armor All Or Something Similar They Will Dry Out And Come Apart If Not!!!

unbroken 03-29-2007 09:05 PM

Man thank you guys. I bought some magic erasers, and my vinyl looks new. Its freakin amazing, it turns the crap to mud, then sucks it away. I'm sold. Best 4.00 I ever spent.

Rambunctious 04-09-2007 07:55 AM

do not use any product with Bleach ( cloride)
vinyl is PVC ( poly vinyl cloride)

a chemist friend told me that bleach breaks down the vinyl. It looks great at first, but will dirty very quickly again, and again because the bleach breaks down the vinyl molecule and opens it up for dirt to get into to pours.

I had used clorox in my first boat and the vinyl looked bleach white ( go figure) to find two weeks later it seemed to be dingy again ( before getting his advice)

I now use 3m Vinyl cleaner and a brush, and no armor all. looks like new vinyl without the car auction detail job look of greasy armor all ( just my preference)

Palmolive dish detergent and a Magic Eraser, you wont belive how snowy white your upholstry will be... we buy magic erasers by the case,, they are the best..

Downtown42 04-09-2007 11:50 AM

Murphy's Oil Soap from a spray bottle works great w/ a soft bristle brush. But, I'd go with Vinyl cleaner. :)

I was wondering the same thing... The chemical name is Formaldehyde-Melamine-Sodium bisulfite copolymer

I don't know about you, but that doesn't help me too much... It's amazing what you can find on the web!:drink:

Here's another link, I'm going to bed... night...:p

Formaldehyde sounds serious, I guess everyone here is happy with the stuff. I will get Magic soon. tnks

Thunderstruck 04-10-2007 01:47 PM

We use melamine (formaldehyde) in the water treatment business. It is a polymer made from formaldehyde. Typically the formaldehyde is <1% of the product. The sulfite is an oxygen scavenger added to products like wine. The copolymer is means that the polymer in the pads has 2 active groups attached to the polymer backbone.

I bought some. I just thought my vinyl was clean. Great product!!!

Downtown42 04-10-2007 03:49 PM

I e/m Procter and Gamble re: long term effect on vinyl. I'll post the reply. Something tells me the stitching may deteriorate quicker than thought.

Product mentions nothing about vinyl applications.

US1 Fountain 04-10-2007 04:56 PM

I don't scrub on the stitching anyways. I ain't skeered.
